I have a laptop that has a PCI-e "G" card. I am wanting to upgrade to a "N" card. Will the wireless "N" card work with on the two antenna wires that are in the laptop?
Thanks,
Greg

I don't believe it will; the N card requires three antenna leads. However, all is not lost, as you may be able to add the third lead yourself. No guarantees, but the _Sony owner in this thread did just that, and was able to replace a 3945 card with a 4965AGN card.

What brand/model is it? My inspiron 1420 came with a G card but had the 3rd lead. I'd open it up and see if you have the 3rd lead.

It does not have the extra antenna wire. I am looking to replace the original Broadcom card that came in the notebook. It gets really poor reception.

I was thinking, if you don't have the TV tuner and have the RF in, you could use that to put the third antenna externally, just an idea.

If it doesn't come with the third antenna, you could do as the person who wrote the message that I linked to did and order the third antenna wire.
