I have a wireless network with multiple access points, they are all connect to the same single router via different switches.
Only one DHCP server is enabled on the main router, the router that supplies the internet.
The problem is, When I switch between different SSIDs (for example, i prefer 5ghz when in the same room, prefer 2.4ghz when far from the 5ghz, prefer old G 2.4ghz when closer to it ..etc)
whenever i switch the network like that, my connection drops, specifically to SSH and IRC connection, which require a stable TCP connection.
SSH connection in VMWARE seems to survive the change of SSID without breaking.
How do I keep my connection stable when switching SSIDs ?

In SSH, you could try to add or increase the existing value for ServerAliveInterval in .config/ssh (client side).
Of course I'm assuming you're on some form of *nix. -
Still doesn't work (i found the same config options in putty)
It seems that when windows change access points, it resets the network somehow, and breaking all the connection. -
Windows, eh? No wonder. Try using a fixed IP.

Still, using a fixed ip doesn't help.
I now do my ssh through a vmware running xubuntu.
not an ideal solution, but for now, it seems to work.
Roaming between access points with different SSIDs
