Connect them to your laptop.
What kind of internet do you have? -
I have the WLAN network.
All comps connect to the internet via Wireless Router.
SO the router is dead.
i am sitting with my laptop next to the Wall from where a Telephone wire comes out which goes inside the Router.
How to use that wire to connect to the internet? -
are you saying the modem is dead or the router?
-
look...
The 2Wire Wireless Router is not with me now....
I wanna connect to the internet ..
How do i connect to the internet without the Wireless Router?
There is a Telephone wire coming out of the Wall which is connected to DSL filter.
So now how do i use that wire to access high speed internet? -
Before:
Laptop---->Wireless Router-----> Internet
Now:
Laptop---->Internet??? -
If it is DSL, the wire coming from the filter (from the telephone socket) that used to be in the wireless ADSL Router (with in built modem) will now have to be plugged into a seperate USB/LAN MODEM.
Your ISP should have supplied you with a MODEM. If you bought the wireless router modem by yourself then you may have the seperate modem packed away somewhere.
Unfortunately if the wireless router came free with your ISP, then you cannot access the internet until you get another wireless router with an inbuilt MODEM -
What!!
i used to think the standard Modem is in-built in most laptops now.
You mean without the Wireless Router my entire Connection is wasted? i cannot use it without a Router? -

Should be: Laptop --->wireless Router---->modem---->Internet
(In some cases Router = modem)
Then
Laptop--->modem--->internet -
What he said above.
Also the 'MODEM' which comes with the ISP is usually fixed settings to connect to their network.
Wireless Router (in-built Modem) has to be set manually using the settings provided by the ISP.
Only Wireless Routers for CABLE MODEMS are 'just' Wireless routers with no in-built MODEM as the Cable company provides the CABLE MODEM which cannot be 'store bought'
And to answer your question; yes you cannot connect to your internet without a modem or an ADSL wireless router. Laptops may still have built-in DIAL-UP modems but not broadband. -
Aren't you already on the internet?
How are you posting all these responses? -
i am stealing from Neighbour...he doesnt even have WEP
But i am using COMODO firewall to be atleast secure for myself -
By reading your previous posts, it sounds like the phone line directly connects to your 2Wire wireless router, right?
If so, the DSL modem is inside your wireless router. Which means you'd need another DSL modem to connect with your DSL service. -
The Wi-Fi router is in the same case as the DSL modem, so you'll have to wait until the unit comes back.
P.S. An open Wi-Fi connection is completely insecure. A firewall won't protect you from someone simply collecting all the data being sent and received. Only a VPN like HotSpot Shield makes open Wi-Fi secure. -
I use 64-bit WEP for security.
how to use WPA? -
Instructions on how to implement it in your router is in it's instruction manual.
Instructions on how to implement it on your laptop depends on what you're using to control the wireless card.
