So here's the case...
Recently i noticed my router has been restarting on its own, it would restart and take over a min to reconnect and then stay connected for a few seconds then restarts again, at first i thought it was a problem with the router's power cord or something, but i noticed later that it restarts mostly when my laptop is connected to it.
I have a laptop and a PC, when i connect it to the PC it doesn't restart at all,but whenever i connect it to the laptop it starts restarting, sometimes it takes a couple of mins to do that and sometimes it can stay 30 mins before it starts restarting..
i have no idea if the laptop can actually get the router to restart or it's some weird coincidence, but if anyone have any idea what the problem might be it'll be greatly appreciated.

Do you connect both wirelessly, wired, or one each?

Connecting a computer to a router should not cause that to happen. I recommend doing a hard reset on the router (make sure to write down and/or export any custom settings first).

And that is the $100,000 question. I find that many people misidentify their devices so that is why giving a name and model number is crucial.
Is this a router, or a cable modem/router/switch?
Is it restarting or loosing sync?
Is the laptop a 100base-t network interface and the desktop a 10 base-t network interface?
All this information is critical.
Actual restarts of routers are almost always heat related; modem resyncs are almost always a case of signal strength. -
And, there is the answer....speedtouch makes cable and dsl modems with routing/switching capabilities.
You are proibably experiencing a resync issue due to signal strength--or a defective unit.
Is this cable or DSL?
Is there a single port on the device, or multiple ports so you can connect both laptop and desktop at once.
Is it actually shutting down, requiring you to unplug and plug it in or the lights just resetting?
Call your ISP and they should be able to log into your device remotely and review the log. -

But concerning the 2nd post...
it's DSL..
it's a single port and connected to a switch, and i take my connection from that switch.
it only restarts ,doesn't shut down. -
OK....now are you sure that this is a SWITCH you are attaching to?
And, what is the model number on the speedtouch
MOST dsl modems do not have dhcp capability in them, meaning your connecting and reconnecting two computers to a device that is only intended to have one device.
Does the restart occur when you remove one and then connect another. After the restart, does it then work fine for as long as you don't change machines?

it is a switch yeah
the model number is speedtouch 510
i've had it for over 5 years now and it's been working fine,meaning it does allow multiple devices working on it
since yesterday i realized that the restart happens whenever i move the laptop, so i'm not sure if the problem might be in the data cable , that it might be loose and for some reason restarts the router, or that the cable is loose and so when i move the laptop the internet disconnects and reconnects on the laptop which somehow restarts the router...
i'm clueless. -
OK, from what I can see, you have a DLS modem with routing capabilities and a 4 port switch built in...so yes, it will serve multiple PCs
Not sure why you are using a separate switch.
Still not sure if you have one or two machines plugged in at once.
Remove the switch from the equation, plug both machines into a port DIFFERENT from the one you are plugging the switch into (so if switch is in LAN port 1, plug machines into port 2 and 3)
Test.
If problem persists, plug router power into a different power source (if in wall socket, try different socket, if in a multiplug adapter, plug directly into wall socket, preferably different than the one multiplug is in).
Plug the phone line into a different jack if possible (make sure it is an unfiltered jack)
If the modem is currently plugged into a dsl filter (with one filtered and one pass through) plug it directly into the wall and take the splitter out of equation.
If the power adapter for the modem is generic, use a different one if available -- but make sure it supplies the same power in both volts and amps. -
ok guess i wasn't so clear with my answers sorry..
it doesn't contain a 4 port switch,it has only one port,and i connect it to a 8 port switch sharing the connection with 7 other people.
anyway i will try some of your suggestions and see

it has 4 ports.
Wow, that's a lot pcs to be running off a DSL connection. And it also provides another clue...we're back to heat with that many active connections.
Vacuum the vents (if any) and move the router to a cooler place if possible. Take a small fan and blow it across the surface.
Or, you may just need to replace it--with that kind of use, the router might just be damaged from the heat -
lol i think that might be it actually,anyway thanks for your help and time,i'll try some options first if they fail i'll just replace it
