I noticed recently that file transfers on my network was getting very sluggish. When I opened the task manager, I observed a strange pattern (see attacked picture). Is this normal, and if not, how could I restore my previous speeds? Thanks,

What kind of files are you sending? If many small files then this would be normal. Are there any other users on your network that might be takeing some bandwidth?

This may be indicating that you are infected with a virus or malware. I would do an intensive scan with AV, rootkit and Addware. With at least 2 mfg. Even use the online scan utilities that the MFG have.

I do weekly scans (ZA, Ad-aware, spybot, AVG), but in my latest one, they didn't find anything. Also, all the computers on the network does this, but only when they're transferring to the NAS (Dlink DNS323). I'm thinking it may be a problem with that, but upgrading the firmware didn't yield any improvements.
I'm transferring very large files, so seek time shouldn't be a problem. Also, I'm the only user on the network. -
Wired, wireless, or both? Incorrectly terminated cat4e cables can cause this, as could damaged wires. If wireless, then interference can cause this. Try changing the channel on your router.

I use Cat5 and cat6 cables, which should provide plenty of bandwidth. I already tried changing the wires, but it didn't help

Why not take a look at your system process. You may have one ill behaved. If you have IM or other services running will also cause this activity. If you have not killed IP6 do so. It may be pooling the network for something.

The Nas is slow. It is normal. All NAS devices made for the consumer market are pretty slow. They have a slow CPU that cant handle fast transfers.

I know that true, but when I first got it, the speeds were much faster... almost double that of my current speed.
I don't have IM or any other network intensive programs running. Also thought XP install IPv4 by default, doesn't it?
