    Slow wireless speed

    I'm getting ~2800 mega-bit/s downloads when using wireless compared to ~8000 mega-bit/s when directly connected.

    I have a friend at my house and we tested his wireless connection using his laptop and he was getting ~8000 mega-bit/s so I doubt it has to do with my router.

    His wireless card: 802.11b/g Wireless LAN
    His OS: Vista Home Premium

    My wireless card: 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN
    My OS: XP Professional

    Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

    Vista is known to have better network performance than XP. MS re-wrote their networking code from ground up. It's about the only thing MS has done right in vista. Everything else in Vista is slower if you can get it to work.

    I understand that, but there's a pretty significant difference between our speeds. I just don't think it could have improved that much if you know what I mean?
