Interesting findings..
Had 14 random people connect to the network, and the activity light was going off like crazy LOL
A few were downloading porn, 2 playing World of Warcraft, one on Ventrilo, and the others just regularly web surfing. I have all of their IPs, and based on their computer names, I can recognize some of my neighbors who are using it. I then resecured it.
Should I report them, or knock on their door and let them know that what they are doing is illegal? I then re-secured the network.

I would knock on their doors and let them know that I know, that they know/should know, that using my wireless without permission is illegal, just so they know that I know. And definitely secure your network.
-
Depending upon where you live, it might be a bad idea to let your neighbors know what you know.
-
Best solution is enabling wireless security. After that you don't need to worry about neighbours
-
If the places that were getting porn and happened to be a single or divorced lady that is attractive I think I know what I would do ....
-

L.O.L.
you can't see this -
i dont think you could yell at them. most laptops are configured to connect to the network with the most signal. hell, most probably have their own wireless already in their houses, but the laptop decided to connect to yours because it was stronger of a signal than their own.
do you seriously believe someone would have WOW subscription and not have internet?..... -
one more thought, the only thing that can "incriminate" someone is not an ip address -> your route GAVE that to them. The computer name doesnt do anything either because that can be changed and it holds no ID to a specific, unique computer. However the MAC address could and would hold up in court. Yes, MAC addresses can be changed with programs, however, had they not, then it would hold up because no 2 wireless devices can legally have the same address, as they are unique.
-
LOL, I didn't think about that, just might be a good ideal not to let them know.
-
Again,
The network is normally secured. I just let is be unsecured for 30 minutes to see what I could find. Don't think I'll do anything about it, I'll just keep it secured like I always have. Just sucks that some people can't afford their own
-
I would not do anything. Some computers are slated to connect automatically like nizzy said. If you say something then you will just tick off your neighbors most likely unless that's what you want to do. Back when i was in college the school had it setup to connect to the strongest signal.

What program did you use to see the packets?
-
how do you know who's connected to ur wireless and what he/she is doing?
-
Go to your router config page, and see who has a DHCP lease. It will list the MAC address, the IP the router gave them, and when the lease expires. In order to know what they're doing, just enable the log and check what sites they're visiting.
It takes about 17 seconds to secure a router, so anyone to lazy to type 7 numbers into browser and click 3 buttons deserves to have their net stolen
If you really want to have some fun with leachers:

What program did you use to get this?
-
I'll have to add this one to my book of one-liners... "Hey I just saw you downloading porn off my router and I thought you might like some company..."
As fun as this would be... it's sadly probably just a horny teen kid or a fat and hairy guy.... -
Don't ruin my plans for the evening goddamn it...
-
I'm just saying..... you might want to keep a backup plan for tonight...

Best free packet sniffer is Wireshark.

If they were using your network intentionally, you would think they would either be using an external wireless card or have a spoofed mac address on thiers.

Either case, if your router supports mac address filtering, use it.
So I left my wireless connection unsecured temporarily for 30 minutes.
