I have high speed cable internet. The main connection is in my basement, and that runs up to my downstairs computer. Is there a way to split the connection to go up to a room upstairs? I have no idea where to start![]()

Probably easiest just to go wireless.

Just run an ethernet cable from your router upstairs.

@Lithus: That's true, but you need to buy the extra required devices.

The short answer is "indubitably yes," the long answer is "yes, but where you start depends on what you have now." In other words, all we know right now is that you have a cable internet signal coming in through a wire in the basement, which somehow, either in that form, or in some other form, goes up one set of stairs, and somehow plugs into your downstairs computer (notice, even I am making assumptions, as in, I've just assumed that, by "downstairs" you do not mean "basement" but "ground floor").
So, how's about describing in a little more detail exactly what hardware you have, and how/where it's all connected up - i.e., do you have your cable modem down in the basement as well, and just run a long ethernet cable up to the ground-floor, or does the coaxial cable come all the way up from the basement to the ground floor, and plug into the cable modem right next to the downstairs computer.
Also, what type(s) of computer do you have - notebook or desktop - and what OS does each system run - _Vista, XP, Linux, some boutique OS?
So how would I go about doing this?
