Ok so there are six of us here all sharing the internet, all paying an equal share, the problem is there is one of the persons downloading constantly and another person constantly streams videos! Is there a way that we can split the internet fairly so the downloading and streaming doesn't affect everybody else as it is impossible to even browse whilst they are doing this.
Have had a look at all of the past suggestions and tried them, with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Some switches have bandwidth control. Most routers do not. There are software packages for this.
Kick him off the group and make him pay full price for his own service, and the 5 of you share the cost of one. -
Download useless things so his downloads take WAYYY longer and maybe he'll wake up.
But yeah I doubt there's a way to really "split" it, as you say.. -
Get a router that supports DD-WRT. You can then find the MACs of all the computers and set QoS on them. So when no one's on they get full bandwidth but when someone else needs it's total bandwidth/number of users demanding the bandwidth.

Managed to get everyone's MAC addresses just got to find out which one is hers. At the moment when there is nobody else in i just filter all of the macs so only mine works but it is a pain when she gets back in. It was one of those house rules that everyone sticks to apart from one person.

It's all one signal so more people on, the slower it gets. Could probably set limits on useage. Set time frames per users.

This sounds like your best solution if you don't want to get a switch.

Most routers do have the capability to restrict by time of day certain functions.

I like DD-WRT's ability to limit bandwidth to being fair, or better giving QoS certain applications.
