Hello!
I`m at the moment at my friend with my laptop and I can`t connect to the Internet!
Her Internet Provided has given static IP (IP adress, Subnet Mask, Default getaway and stuff).
If I disconnect her computer and try to use all the same number of IP adress and stuff and it doesnt connect me? Can Internet provider notice that it`s another computer trying to connect? How can I use Internet on another computer if I have given static IP?
Yesterday I tried to set up a router to use internet on her computer and use wireless internet on my laptop. Unfortunately I couldnt. Set up all the settings, fixed ip settings...It was sending packages but didnt recieve anything back. I could find my wireless network and it connected but internet didnt work..Is there anything special I need to set up a router if my internet provider has given me IP adress, Subnet Mask, Default getaway and stuff?
Sorry for newbie questions!
Thanks!

Is there any other details you need (username and password)? When you connected the router did your friend's internet connection still work? If you are connecting via a router only the router should be assigned the static IP, leave your computer's connection on automatic settings (Just make sure the router has DHCP enabled).

Reset the modem when you attach a new device. What is happening, is it is "attached" to a MAC address when you boot it up attached to something, and in most cases you can tell it to use another MAC by just unplugging it, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in.
If that fails, you'll need to get the MAC address off of the original computer that was attached, and fake the MAC address in your router settings. -

Use her pc and setup the router. CLONE the MAC address of her pc into the router, this will need to be done before the connection is estabilished. You can actually do the setup with the modem disconnected from the router. Once you have the info entered, connect the modem, it should make the connection. This will make the router appear like her pc, all connections will appear as 1 pc.

she has no modem..just a long cable..if there`s a modem I guess its somewhere in staircase..
where I can find this MAC adress? And how can I clone or fake it? (I`m already googlin) -
You have a modem for sure. Both DSL and cable require one before you can have internet access.
-
yeah i know i do..but this internet connection is pretty weird..modem is somewhere outside the flat..and its locked..
-
What is on the other end of that "long cable." It is an ethernet cable right? Does it connect into a port built into the wall?
-
Have you try the method above? This happens very often
people don't know a MAC address is attached
until its reset.
-
Where does the cable go to then? Is it a shared house arrangement where the modem is in a central location and you get a cable to each room, or is she "borrowing" it from somebody else?
If so, do what Blue68F100 said, because that's the only way to get that router to work for you. I'm still confused though as to why the modem is not in her apartment. -
i just had similar problem at my brother's apartment. to fix the issue, i had to go to network and sharing center, select manage network connections, right click Local Area Connection, select Internet Protocol Version 4, click properties. i checked the box to obtain ip address and dns automatically, worked like magic.

Yeah make sure its getting an ip address and dns automatically also do a hard reset of the router, by unplugging it for over 60 seconds.
Static IP?
