I have the following setup:
DSL ISP
|
V
ClearAccess AG10W Modem (with Router built in)
|
V
Linksys WRT54G-TM Wireless Router
|
V
Computers/Laptops/phones
Internet works just fine on all devices. I can log into each device just fine and adjust settings. Problem is, I simply can not get Port 25565 to open. I want to use that port to host a server, that me and my friends can access from anywhere.
I have tried Port Forwarding, Port Triggering, DMZ, Static IP's, disabling Firewalls, stopping Antivirus (temporarily), and many other steps trying to get this port to open, but no luck.
IS there any utility out there, that will map my network, and find out exactly which device isn't set up properly? Or, is there anyone who can tell me exactly how to set up these specific devices so that it will work? I've been working on this for days, and am getting really frustrated.

Since the modem has an in-built router it should be set to bridge mode otherwise you have two routers meaning two NATs and that will cause connectivity issues.
-
1) The Linksys router doesn't have NAT that I can tell - it uses RIP - Does that make a difference?
2) I have been unable to figure out how to set the Modem to Bridge setting
Here is the Main "Advanced Setup" menu of the Modem:
What category should I look under? -
WRT54G uses NAT for sure.
As for the modem look here on the forth screen you can see a bottom option is "bridging"- that's what you want to try.
This way ClearAccess will act as a modem-only and will pass everything else to the Linksys. It's gonna be a lot easier to deal with it.
If you're not very good with this (or even if you are) remember to back-up your current config of both devices- both should allow you to save settings to a file. Do that before you start changing anything. If it doesn't work as expected at least you'll have something to fall back. -
Ok, a Lot of good information there! I tried to follow those directions, but my setup is slightly different. Here is a screenshot:
This is under "Layer2Interface" - It's just 1 screen, and the dropdown in the middle that says LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING is the only place Bridging is mentioned. - If I try to change anything on this page, it won't let me save it - says Invalid Session Key.
I found Screens 5 and 7 under WAN, but it is stuck on PPPoA and I can not find where to change it. And if I check the box next to "Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports" it doesn't remember it.
I consider myself average to good with this stuff, and I have already reset and re-set all the settings on both routers multiple times, but still appear to be missing something. -
If bridging doesn't work you may try it the other way- change your router into an Access Point. See here for details.
Whichever way you go you'll have to put one device in charge- one DHCP server, one NAT- otherwise it's going to collide somewhere. -
Ok, looked that over, and I see two potential problems, If I read it correctly that is.
One is location. It says to connect the PC directly to the (in my case) ClearAccess AG10W. This I can not do logistically. Can this be done with the PC connected to the Linksys?
Second, is it says to change the PC back to Automatic DHCP config, and not Static IP - don't you need the static IP for the port forwarding to work?
(still reading too)
I CAN disable the NAT and DHCP on the AG10W btw. Would that help?
I also can make a NAT Virtual Server. I don't know if that would help though.
And of course there is DMZ Hosting too. just throwing out ideas, I'm sure you know more than I do.
Remember, the internet works just fine, and all devices can see all other devices just fine, I simply can't unblock a port for incoming internet traffic. I'm making a game server, and I can connect to the server locally, but not from the internet.
BTW: just figured out it's a WRTU54G-TM - don't know if that makes a difference or not. -
Well disable NAT on the modem if you can although a tidy solution would be better.

no dice. If I disable NAT on the ClearAccess - I loose all internet connectivity
Still unable to get Port Forwarding to work
