We are planning on getting an ac router and decided on this one based on this CNET review
http://www.cnet.com/products/trendnet-ac1900-dual-band-wireless-router/
Does anyone have an experience with this router? And problems or rave reviews?
Also, is this the best router to get in this price range, or is there something better that is out there for around the same price? Thanks

Short version - don't buy it.
Long version is here: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wire...dru-ac1900-dual-band-wireless-router-reviewed
I stand by my recommendations from the sticky (no surprise, right?
) and I would recommend a TP-Link Archer C7 v2 for roughly $100 which is better in pretty much every way (external antennas, two USB ports, better LAN-WAN throughput, better Wi-Fi throughput on both bands, better range) and is apparently cheaper.
A revire for comparision: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/32498-tp-link-archer-c7-v2-reviewed?start=1
Mind you - do not buy a v1 of Archer c7 - only v2. -

I've been using a Netgear R7000 for over a year with no issues.
I have a desktop,3 notebooks,2 Android tablets,2 Samsung wireless laser printer and 3 Nexus smartphones connected to it

Thanks for the advice guys. I wonder why CNET gave the router I was thinking of a much better review than your other site...

If you read both reviews you'll see how much comprehensive smallnetbuilder.com is. This is a go-to website as far as networking equipment is concerned - simply these are people who know what to test and how to test it.

Is there a reason to get the net gear 7000 over the Asus 68u? The second one is cheaper, and they seem to do about the same
-
Yes there is - see the sticky for a short explanation.

The T-Mobile Cell Spot Router is the ASUS RT-AC68U that's made for T-Mobile by Asus.
If you have T-Mobile you may be able to get the router for FREE or with a $25 deposit if you claim bad reception at home otherwise it may cost $99

Thanks but I have fios (which is why we I want a better router, to take advantage of the speed)
-
So based on your recommendations I've gotten the r7000. Even without configuration it's already improved my speeds, at least on my 5ghz compatable laptop. Are there any recommended settings For faster speeds and longer range?

Have you updated to newest R7000 firmware and tried different channels?
I have mine set to channel 161 but all between 149 and 161 work well. -
Is the firmware worth upgrading? I never got around to it, and things seemed to work out of the box. Are there any noticeable improvements?

I'm on the latest update, on chanel 153 I think. There are 0 other 5 ghz networks around me so no interference
