Hello I've just moved in to my dorm and noticed that the P2P programs don't work. Is there any way to make them work? I mean it connects but everytime u try and download a song it just won't download. I would appreciate any help. IS there a way to get around them?

Your campus probrably blocked the sites and ports, so unless you want to do something that may get you expelled...well, no more P2P.
And we don't really support P2P here, *cough* -
Thats why it connects but it doesnt allow you to do things like coriolis said if its illegal or bad, chances are it is blocked. Schools try to reinforce laws as much as they can.
-
Yeah, pretty much all schools I know prevent users from using P2P programs.
...unless you use iTunes. (I think) -
When I lived in the dorms at the univ. of colorado, they blocked all the major filesharing programs. However, I think something like bittorrent is not blocked. Some lesser known p2p programs also might work, but then there is the risk of spyware.

At the University of Idaho, they blocked bittorrent, but I could use Ares, but it sucked...I think they probably block just about all the ports that might get used for file sharing, just leaving open like ftp and smtp and all that jazz...

For a brief period I remember a program called CUNap that was specific to the CU network, where your computer would contact a server off-network that would connect you with other computers in-network. I think whoever was running the server cut it off, but for a while I could transfer files at crazy rates, like as fast as your hard drive could write!

He probaly had to close it down. Remember that bittorrent and others are illegal.
Dont want anyone to be in trouble here now of course.

I don't think BT is illegal- the guy who wrote it gives out his address for crying out loud- I think the problem lies in what most people choose to do with it. It's great for getting Linux iso's!
-
Yeah for linux ISO 's and GINORMOUS GAME demos's!!!
-
yea..it's NOT illegal if your download LEGAL files..lol...like large files such as demos and stuff -
Yes, anything considered as a full movie, full games, and full versions of software are illegal.
