Guys my dad's old toshiba laptop was messed up, so I decided to do a re-format
I downloaded the drivers from Toshiba's euorpean site, include including the WLAN driver.
After a successful reinstall, all the other drivers installed perfectly even applications after that, but when I installed the WLAN driver (INPROCOMM I think), it also said successful and asked for a restart, but upon the restart there was no Wireless network icon on the taskbar or under the connect to menu.
Then when I went into device manager there was a yellow question mark next to Network controller, under other devices, which I guess is the wireless card.
I tried re-installing the driver and it still hasn't worked
Can someone please help me to get this working, or my dad will be waay mad at me because he really needs wireless internet (duh)
Please help me, I don't know what to do next
Thanks

specs on the machine, also what wireless card?
WLAN drivers could be bundled with the chipset drivers.
Sounds like you installed the wrong drivers. -
Well
It has a 1.8 GHz single core pentium (M??? not sure)
512MB RAM, 15.4"
I'm not sure which wireless card it is, how can I find out
I installed the chipset drivers that were on toshiba's site (Intel) but they didn't install the wireless driver.
However I think that before I did the format the drivers installed were from Intel, but again I am not sure as I don't really use the laptop much
So what else do you need, and how can I fond out the wireless card?
Should I google the code under hardware ID or.......???? -
Easiest way to find out is pop out the wlan compartment on the bottom.
Im guessing its an Atheros card, but i could be wrong. -
So I have to open it
Not too sure on how to open this one, I have opened mine though
The only thing is that this one doesn't have one central cover for everything, so I may have to take apart many things (that'll off my dad
)
I'll take a look, and I am also going to go upstairs and look for the box too see what the specs are and if I can find a driver CD
There was a samll compartment with its own screws near the WLAN switch on the laptop
I took a few pics:
This image is better
Is this the wireless chip, and if so I'm guessing it's Intel ???

Added the pics to my previous post ^^^^

You got your model number there, does that match up to the drivers you were trying to install?
If not try this http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1637 -
You need drivers for Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network for your OS.
Then if you not using windows to connect to the wireless also download the intel wireless software.

The drivers I was installing weren't even from Intel XD
So I just download the drivers from your link???
Also should I turn the WLAN switch ON physically before, to enable the hardware???
Thanks
But I don't need this with Windows XP correct???
Thanks for all your help guys
I'll get back to in a bit -
Ok your using XP some perfer to use Windows to connect via wireless other perfer or use the intel wireless manager to connect the choice is yours..
Yes turn on your switch and check your bois to see if its on in there also install drivers etc.. -
Thanks alot guys for all your help I'll rep you now
I un-installed the retarted drivers from the toshiba site, and then installed these
it said something like initialising, then it finished and disspaeared, and the wireless icon was back in the tray, and I conencted to our home network in a matter of seconds
Now my dad has a fully fuctioning XP laptop, with all his files and NO VIRUSES
He was infected so bad that there was a virus in the memory, task manager had been disabled, files were hidden and I couldn't access folder options or regedit
And this was after I cleaned out about 50 viruses. My dad didn't want me to format
*didn't trust me*
