Whats the best wireless N router <$200? I have a wireless G cable gateway Amazon.com: Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway (WCG200): Electronics at the moment. Its the most awesomest piece of garbage I have ever bought. I liked it sooooooooo much I bought it twice after I broke the first one thinking it was me and not it. I have a rented modem also from Comcast so I don't need to get a new modem too.

According to users here and smallnetbuilder, the best is Netgear's WNDR3700 which is <$150.

i've only owned 2 wireless-N routers so far, and the WNDR3700 happens to be one of them. the WNDR3700 is, by far, the best router i've ever owned by a wide margin. great factory firmware and it just works, without a hiccup (knock on wood
), right out of the box.

I just bought the Netgear 3700 after deliberation in such threads as:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/net...e3000-high-performance-wireless-n-router.html
I purchased it at Staples for about $130 after coupons since they have a 14 day easy return policy & need to evaluate it in my FIOS setup first. I won't be back home to set it up however until perhaps another week. I hope the latest firmware resolves the recent issues..
I would also like to report good things..
Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router -
To be fair these are not real issues- at least the ones that still persist- these are just minor bugs in GUI and one of the modules.
I'm really impressed by how they approach it though- basically no one has a "known issues" section and no other manufacturer sees the fact that write performance of the drive connected to USB is slower than read as a problem (it is lower in all routers I've seen)
I haven't been really convinced that WNDR3700 is the king of the hill a while ago but now with DD-WRT support, their own support that does its work and great performance of this router (not to mention its reasonable price) I'm totally convinced.
Still I'm looking forward to your opinions on it. -
So I will play with the 3700 more in my *FIOS setup tomorrow (the last day I can return it) but so far:
My unit came with firmware V1.0.4.49 & enabling guest network/s did as recently reported disable all Wi-Fi. Upgrading to the latest WNDR3700 Firmware Version 1.0.4.68 did prevent the disabling of all Wi-Fi when enabling guest networks yet devices still could not connect to the visible SSID broadcasting guest networks regardless of security settings (though I did not have time to try every conceivable combination)..
Netgear's firmware page states under
"New Features & Bug Fixes:
Fixed WiFi gets disabled when guest account or WDS is enabled only if the MAC address starts with non-zero.
Need I mess with MAC address' or hope for a future fix as I would like the advertised guest networks?
Anyone else with the 3700 set as primary or secondary router have guest networks working with latest firmware?

-Thanks, hope this helps others -
when i logged onto my WNDR3700's settings page, it told me that i had 'current language GUI verson: V1.0.0.41'
'language GUI version: V1.0.0.42' is available for updating.
this isn't the router's actual firmware is it? -
Have the 3700 and like it very much.

paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
the Asus RT-N16 with dd-wrt/tomato looks nice too (~$90)... enough RAM/ROM/processing power to keep you happy... too bad it is not dual band

Any Wireless-N Netgear router is great

Hey houstoned,
You should be able to click Router Status to confirm:
Hardware Version WNDR3700
Firmware Version V1.0.4.68NA
Are your guest networks enabled & working? -Thanks -
ah, ok. thanks for the tip. this is what mine says:
Hardware Version WNDR3700
Firmware Version V1.0.4.68NA
GUI Language Version V1.0.0.41
i already have the latest firmware so i guess that was just a GUI version update (new GUI version is V1.0.0.42) that was available. u think i should upgrade it to the latest one?
as for my guest networks, they are just broadcasting an SSID, but not enabled. are there any benefits of this feature? i don't really see a need for it. -
WNDR 3700 and it ain't close compared with the routers I have had in the past that includes a couple of high end D links and a Cisco 610 that I returned to Best Buy. Cheapest place to get it is Staples with a coupon you can get online.
