Hi guys. My Dell e1505 (1 month old) and netgear router work well together- most of the time. However, about once per evening or so, I'll be surfing the net and all of a sudden it'll say "can't display page". I'll check, and I'm either no longer connected to the network, or it'll say I'm connected even though I'm not. All I have to do is hit "connect" again and everything is fine. What causes this to begin with, though? The computer is only about 25 feet from the router, and they're in the same room.

My computer does that occasionally, but I'm actually WIRED into my router on my desktop PC. I'm not sure what it is, but my router seems to like to reset itself or something. Sometimes its more simple, like my phone line going into my dsl modem doesn't have the lock in thingey on it anymore, so i had to tape it in. I suggest checking your router settings and checking the max idle times and so on. Since I changed the idle time from 90 minutes to 8 hours I haven't had any problems, just tweak some settings and see if it works for you.

Another thing you might want to check out is the lease time for your IP addresses. Your lease might be running out every evening, and you have to reconnect to get a new IP. Just another thing to think about.

What is your wireless card? If it is the Intel 2200BG join the group. There is a big thread on this if you search for it. So far there are no fixes.

Actually, on the Thinkpads, if my memory is right, the fix is to uninstall any connection management software (not the drivers), and let Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration do its job. I would try that.
(Probably won't work, as I cannot be smarter than all the others.
)
Why does my computer randomly disconnect from it's wireless network?
