Hi guys, please let me know any advice at all on fixing this problem, because i do download alot per day
my laptop with an intel3945 abg card is gettin 1.80 MB/s top speed thats 1800kbps
that card is built in...and is 54mbps card
now my main pc is connected from the router to the PC
i get max speed of 3.50 MB/s 3500kpbs
why is my wireless only half of that speed, i kno its still fast and i shouldnt be complaining, but is there anything i can do to max my connection out on my laptop
i know wireless is always slower then router speed but its like CAPPED at 1.80 never budges over that 1 bit...
i already tried
-changing channels on the router
-taking off all security on router
-installing latest intel drivers
-rebooting after messing with some settings
-
byt he way my network card in the pc is 108mpbs

First 54mbps is before over head, actual is around 35mbps. Now this is 1/2 duplex, can not send and receive at the same time. Now remember this speed is shared across all users.
In order to get the 108mbps (wireless) it must be the same mfg on each end to work. Every mfg handles the higher rates differently, not part of the spec. I would have guessed your desktop pc to be wired, 100baseT. -
So what do i need to buy a 100mbit laptop card?

Generally you need to match chips sets to the AP (radio) in the router. MFG to MFG. The upped speed is due to jumbo packets. And all MFG handle it differently. It is not part of the 11g (54mbps) spec.

Yes, both(router and Card) have to be able to communicate at the 108Mb speed other wise it will revert to the slowest speed.
-
Each manufacturer has their own technology to reach to 108Mbps. So if you use diffirent it can not work together to reach max speed.

Not only that, since its wireless, there is bound to be other wireless waves in the 'air' which creates traffic is disruption, slowing down wireless.
Why is my wireless connection half the speed of the pc connection???
