Hey all
Yet another problem. The problem is now on my computer.....
So my dad decides to put WPA protection on... oh gosh. He puts it on, and gives me the new key password. Only one computer gets working with, he then changes it to wpa 2, and the laptop connects. My computer is still being gay.
So....
This is what it says:
Sometimes it says: "Validating identity"
Or it just says, limited connectivity and says "Windows can not find a certificate to log onto the network"
I go to properties to manually put in the key, it doesn't even give me an option to choose WPA2..... !!!!!!!
I've flushed the DNS, but i cannot release or renew the ip. Help?

Try this: Delete the location, reboot, when prompted enter the new key. If the key is any good and proper length you will need to copy and paste it in. My key are 63 chr all printable chr, looks like the worst typing drill/test you have ever seen.

Ok, we took the WPA off, and nothing worked... argh. Now my computer is fine, after rebooting, and i dunno what. It just randomly connected.
My laptop is not connecting, and we don't have any security on!
Any idea? It just won't connect -
WOW...Reset everything already!
Or just get a linksys router and revert to XP

1) I'm running XP
2) The two linksys routers we had crapped out on us within 6 months of each other, their software sucks
3) I'm no idiot, i've reset everything millions of times...
Would someone with useful help like to join in? -
Then Windows really hates you..take it up w/ Microsoft!...better yet call Mr. Gates himself and hear what he has to say.
-
Are you saying that you don't see the option for WPA in your wireless adapter?
-
On the laptop yeah, but right now it won't even work on the unsecured network!
-
Were I you, I'd reset everything back to defaults, including NIC config and firewall, do a factory reset on the router, and start all over again from square one. It sounds like you've done so much tinkering with everything that somewheres, buried in some config file, is an inconsistency that's causing all the trouble.

This is all I was saying in my post#4, but for some reason the OP took it personal. I didn't mean to insult ur intelligence; and I understand ur frustrated but I think u over-reacted my friend.
-
Unfortunately, the OP should have taken it as an indication that we know he knows what he's doing, because it's that sort of user (the one who knows a lot about computers and networks) who usually ends up getting him/herself in trouble with things like this through too much tinkering and not enough writing down what got tinkered with.
-
Well Makaveli, what you told me to do, was doing a standard reset. What Shyster has told me is different....
If i can't get it working, i'm thinking I may do a factory reset and completely redo the network. Thanks for your help. -
Problem resolved.... restarted computer, unplugged ALL hardware, left out for 10 mins, came in, plugged everythign back up and worked.
I did this before, and ti didn't work. So weird! -
What a waste of time
-
Certainly not of yours, unless you know how to invisi-post.
-
It's windows bro, get used to wasting your time.

And they wonder why people are jumping ship to Apple ........
-
Apple, Snapple!
I can't see myself owning one of those things. I've grown to accustom to Windows, and can't dream about switching. It's tooo different!

I actually love Windows and to be honest when I saw the thread and your post I read it all the way thru and thought that you were full of it to be honest.
Even now I'm not quite sure I believe this whole story you're claiming.
Yeah Vista's launch wasn't perfect but I think the product is actually pretty **** good and I'm glad I got it.
As for Apple I respect the company and love their iPods but I'll never own a Mac cuz for me they're just not comfortable. I'm much more at ease with Windows.
I'm sure that they perform just fine but after trying them out I know that they're just not for me. -
Why go to all the trouble of replacing the hardware as well when you can just step on over to some linux variant and just change the software?
-
I feel the same way!
Yes...makes sense..and I wouldn't mind Linux, but apple...hell nah. -

OSX is running a form of linux. You can even drop to terminal mode or X-Windows if you want. Most corp who need linux's terminal buy the mac mini cheapest thing out there. I've used and worked on both since the 1st pc and apple were released. So I'm comfortable with both. It's been well documented that apples require 1/10 the support of PC's. But they do not have all of the different hardware to deal with either. Mine MBP is dual boot (bootcamp) with parallels to run XP-pro inside of my OSX. So I have both worlds on 1 NB. MS has always lagged behing apple by 5-10 yrs on the technology side. But any OS Code is so complicated I don't see how any of them work as good as they do.
Each his own, I use both. Jumping back in forth all the time is second nature for me. I just wish there were more MAC games, the reason for dual boot. -
How so????

How much time have you actually spent with a Mac? Have yall ever owned one and seriously used it? Cuz you don't realize the big difference until you actually buy one. Believe me, my dad used to own a company that wrote software FOR microsoft. Now, he owns mutplie Mac's, and guess what, he's never had ANY problems with them. Networking is simple, software is simple, no need to worry about drivers or firewalls.
Then you have our windows... *sigh*
I'll definitely always have a windows machine, for gaming purposes. Mac's don't perform too well with gaming and the choice of games is poor. But for everything else? Guess what laptop was mandatory when my sis went to film school by hollywood.
Yep, a Mac
But each to his own, i encourage yall to really spend time with a Mac, and use one without any expectations. Go in with a clear mind, and you'll be surprised. You dont think they work well cuz you're too used to windows. Funny thing is, Apple's are so much more simple. I've never had trouble using one. So just try on out guys.
And btw, i wasn't "full of it". If you've spent enough time on these forums, you would have seen the thread i made 2 weeks ago with similar problems with the same laptop. I already spent 24 hours doing the basic things, so i was hoping for some really advanced help from people who had helped me last time.
Windows hates me, I swear: Part 2
