I've got an older Linksys BEFSR41 router setup as a gateway. My desktop connects no problem at 100 base. Just bought a new Asus M51SN laptop and it will only connect at 10Mbps - I'm trying to figure out why.
Already tried 5 different cables and I don't see a setting anywere to adjust connection speed or dull/half duplex. Any help is appreciated.
-Laptop NIC is an Atheros L1 Gigabit - 10/100/1000Base T, Driver ver. 2.4.7.7
-Vista Home Premium, 32bit
-Linksys BEFSR41 (ver. 1) 4 port router/gateway

Do you have the latest LAN driver?
-
Driver ver. 2.4.7.7 is the latest.
-
The only thing I can think is to verify the router QOS feature, but if it's an old router it might not even have that.
-
I'm pretty sure that's not an issue. It's a matter of the laptop negotiating a connection with the router at only 10Mbps as opposed to 100, even w/nothing else connected.

Put your desktop's cable into the port you're having trouble with and test it.
If it works at 100, it's the laptop.
If it doesn't, it's the router.
That's ideal conditions, but it will give you somewhere to start.
