I need help connecting to the internet.
TELUS has determined there is no issues with the connection.
Lenovo is determined to say there is nothing wrong with the new laptop.
I have tried all sorts of trouble shooting after calling 2x to both TELUS and Lenovo both refer me to the other.
TELUS ADSL works on this CPU and I can take the wire from this CPU and connect it directly to the Laptop. SO the ADSL hardware is working fine.
I have registered my Laptop's MAC address.
I have removed IPv6 from the protocols.
I have tried ipconfig/renew and it is unable to contact the DHCP server
I have tried to ping google.com and the requeste could not find host www.google.com
I have tried tracert www.google.com and it is unable to resolve target system name www.google.com
I have purged the ip stuff with netsh and rebooted my laptop but that has not worked.
I have restored back to factory default and still have the same issues (lenovo sugestion)
PC Doctor 5 says "cannot run" TCP/IP Network communication Test. All other Network tests are fine (Cable, PCI, and Link tests)
I have not installed norton.
I have turned off windows firewall.
I do not have anyother programs loaded aside from what the T60p comes with.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
Aaron

So...are you using an ADSL modem or a router? You say you've registered your laptop's MAC address, is that on the router?
-
Hmm, ok so your internet connection works fine with your current computer but not your new laptop.
When you take the wire from the current computer to your laptop the connection stops working?
First connect the DSL connection to your laptop and then reboot the DSL modem. After it is done rebooting try using ping on google's numeric IP address on your laptop. To do this, open a command prompt and type ping 64.233.169.104
(Command Prompt is located under Programs > Accessories)
Is there a reply or does it respond with Request Timed Out or some other form of error? -
I have tried to registering both the Thompson Speedtouch modem and the laptop's MAC's and neither work.
Yes the connection does not work on the laptop, but works when plugged back in the main CPU
I powered down the modem, rebooted and the error is Ping: transmit failed, error code 1231
Any other thoughts? -
Is your laptop running Windows Vista?
If so take a look at these two links:
Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers
Windows Vista won't connect to the network - how to fix the problem by making Vista less aggressive on the network
Up to you which one you want to try, I'd probably suggest MS patch first... since its official. -

I would suggest installing a router. Clone the MainPC MAC address into the router. You are probably going to need both pc at the same time. It is easier debugging when you control the enviroment. Vista can be a royal pain to get working at times. But in most cases it will auto connect to a DHCP server on boot.
