I have a new Asus S6F notebook (Windows XP SP2). I've found that if I hibernate to RAM or disk, then resume, the wireless adapter often ceases to function - i.e. it doesn't see any wireless networks.
This can sometimes be resolved using the "repair" facility, but the last time this happened the wireless adapter was actually showing as being turned off. I tried turning it off/on using the hardware switch but it still didn't come back (the hardware switch enables/disables both Bluetooth and Wifi). Eventually I noticed that when I turned the hardware switch on I got a floating display for a couple of seconds, with icons indicating whether Bluetooth/Wifi were on. This was showing Bluetooth only, so I clicked on the "Bluetooth and Wifi" icon and managed to resolve the problem. I believe that the wireless adapter is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG.
Asus have recommended uninstalling/re-installing the wireless driver, which I see as being a bit of a cop-out, particularly as the machine is 3 days old!
Can anyone suggest cause or solutions for this??
TIA
Ian

it takes about 10 seconds to uninstall/reinstall the driver
you still haven't tried it? -
Have you tried Standby instead of Hibernate?? Same issue? if not, then I would suggest disabling Hibernate and use Standby instead.

He probably still won't like the fact that he'd have to disable a pretty basic feature in XP to resolve his problem or uninstall factory-installed drivers.
I don't know, I would say updating the Intel wireless drivers to see if it makes a difference. -
I don't think it's a hardware problem, it might be a software issue. Since Hibernate uses almost a gig of space, I think it's useless when you have another feature , Stand By, that doesn't require that space, and does the job.

I've re-installed the wireless driver, and will monitor it for a few days. It seems that Standby mode (suspend-to-RAM) only lasts for about 5 minutes before switching to Hibernate (suspend-to-disk).
I got the problem above (with the wireless being switched off after I resumed) after putting it into suspend-to-RAM mode and leaving it for about 30 minutes - by which time it had suspended to disk.
This sounds like a problem with the driver, but I've checked the ASUS website and I already have the latest version. -
did you reinstall the latest intel wireless chipset drivers from the intel site?
-
No - just the version supplied with the laptop (v10.1.1.3). There's a newer version available from the Intel site, but since it's not appearing on the Asus Live Update site I'm reluctant to install this version as I assume it hasn't been tested with the S6F.
