We just re-installed Windoes XP Home with SP2 on one of our laptops. Now, whenerver windows is started and our wireless network is detected, a message balloon pops up from the Wireless Network Connection icon in the Taskbar announcing the fact, and it has to be clicked shut to get rid of it.
Any way to switch this balloon off but still keep the wireless icon in the taskbar?
Thanks

have you connected and configured the preferred network? i think once you do that, the balloon will stop popping up.

If you are comfortable with Regedit :

Our wireless set-up is the only one on the preferred network list, as the laptop hasn't been out of the house yet & in any public access areas. I do not see a way to make our connection more "preferred", if you know what I mean. It is already set to automatic connection. Is there any other check box I have missed?

OK, thanks for that link - a shame Windows do not make it easier!

AHah Windoze KNOWS what you want and gives it to ya ....in their defence , lets just say there is a 'wide range' of customer knowledge base they have to cater do - an issue when you own 90%+ of the market (oooooooh I wish I had their worries hahaha - better yet about 10k shares in '86)

LOL, yes definitely features like this are essential to make it easy for anyone to work with something as worldwide as Windows....
....But, there is a checkbox for showing the icon or not in the bar...
There is a checkbox for if you want a balloon to warn you if you have limited or no connectivity...
Just ONE more checkbox for the connection balloon isn't so much to ask, is it?
Well, maybe with Vista

Back again;
OK, i've found out it is also possible to turn off all message bubbles with Windows TweakUiPowertoy.
Nice because turning them on or off only needs a mouse click in the appropriate box!

Good find

Another good thing - as TweakUI edits the registry, there is no need to keep it installed -it can "argue" with other tweak programs if left on, apparently
