i have a m1530 with intel 4956 wireless card. currently connected via linksys wrt350n with DD-WRT v24 reflash.
the setup has been workin great for me for about 2 months or so. never dropped my connection. i was always connected at 130mbps with 5/5 bars of reception. i was very satisfied til about a week ago.
when i turn my notebook on, it would take a while for my notebook to just recognise my router ssid. then it would take another few mins just to connect to my router. it has never done this before.
after finally gettin a wireless connection. my speed would sometimes dip down to 5-13mbps.this is very annoyin while i'm gamin. sometimes it would just disconnect me from my game or when i'm playing CS, my latency would shoot up to 800 - 1900+.
i've tried resetting my router and cable modem. that hasn't helped much. i haven't changed anything in my configurations. are there any tweaks i could do to remedy/help this problem? what do u guys think the problem is? i'm thinkin its my router cuz sometimes my desktop (connected to router via enet cable) would act up a bit also.
thanks in advance. any help is very much appreciated.

Check in Device manager and make sure that it is set to use max power and power saving isn't allowed to put the device in standby.
And I read the title as "Wireless hubcaps" -
wireless hubcaps..LOL
how long have you had your router? did you install any new programs or make any changes around the time this started happening? -
4956AGN card and router has had the same configurations since i reflashed it with DD-WRT. -
u could always try to update the drivers or just uninstall the router and then reinstall it
-
the thing is...everythin was workin great for about 2 months. then all of a sudden started actin up. do u guys think its a problem with my router or my wireless card? no settings have been changed on my wireless card or router since my initial set up. this is REALLY annoyin me. it would be runnin great for 1 min then slow to a crawl the next. i'm also experiencin random connection drops too. -
your router
or possibly a virus
you could try just uninstalling your router and then reinstalling it
do you have a disc for reinstalling your router? -
i have a linksys wrt350n with DD-WRT v24 reflash. i've tried resettin my cable modem and router multiple times and that didn't help any. do u have a link to router drivers? i might just do a 30/30 hard reset and see if that helps any.
ran spybot s&d, ad-aware, and avg. everythin came up clean. -
ok..the driver for the router should be on the linksys page.
www.linksys.com
is this your router

Can't use linksys firmware. It doesn't work with its own product...lol. No really it doesn't, that's why she's using DD-WRT firmware.
Houstoned, any chance you purchased or introduced any new wireless devices into your home in the past few weeks?
If not you, maybe your neighbor did? I would try changing wireless channels on your router. See if that helps. -
there is an updated version of DD-WRT v24 that was recently released: DD-WRT v24 SP1. i'm gonna check it out and see if it will fix my stability issues. the constant hiccups and connection drops are gettin on my last nerve. i'm about to throw this thing against the wall and buy a new router.
thats just my baby mama in my avatar.
but there have been no changes on my part. i guess i could ask my neighbor if they got anything new. i've tried changing my channels before and if its on anything other than "auto," i wont get a wireless connection. my roommate is also havin similar problems with his notebook. i gave him my toshiba satellite and it currently runs on wireless-G.
i'm gonna check out the DD-WRT v24 SP1 update and hope that helps some.
thanks alot for all yur responses guys. really appreciate it. -
Is your roomate using your router?
If an N and G card connect to a wireless N router, it will slow down to the slower of the two network protocols, G in this case. -
-
That's strange. Not sure what to tell you.
I know when my buddy comes over with his older laptop, wireless B, I can't even connect period with my wireless abgn card. I'm stuck using a lan.
I do run in mix mode as well on a b/g router. The router just doesn't like to run b and g modes at the same time.
As an experiment have him stay off the wireless network and see if you're network drops down if you're the only one on it. -
just dug up a link here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/belkin-n1-wireless-router/4505-3319_7-31864345.html
Granted it's on a belkin router, but it's explaining what I was mentioning earlier.
It shouldn't be possible for you to get 130mbps if you're buddy is connected with a G card. The entire wireless network gets dumbed down to the slowest device that's connected. That's the whole point of dual band routers. It allows an N and G device to connect to the same router and use their own rated speeds without affecting the other.
Another thing to note. Wireles B devices are usually in that 13mbps range you said you dip down to. It could be that a wirless B device is trying to connect to your network. I would turn on your router ip logs on and see what kind of activity you're getting there.
If 1 B device tries to connect you're whole wireless network will drop down to the B speed. -
thanks for the link. 13mpbs was just the lowest connection speed i've seen. my connections have dropped anywhere from 117mpbs to lower 30's and 40's. but anytime there is a drop in connection speed, my actual internet speed is slowed down to a snail's pace. i have a WPA2 wireless security up. the only way someone, from outside of my network, can access my router is if they hack thru my encryption right?
my roommate actually works red eye hours so he basically sleeps all day and goes to work from 6pm til about 7am. so he is never even home to even use the computer. would that fact rule out the N/G interference issue? -
could anyone please please help me with my situation?
the router dropped my connection (again) this morning. after that i couldn't connect back onto it. it would detect it in my wireless networks with 4-5 bars of signal, but wouldn't let me connect to it. it kept sayin the router had a low signal or somethin. i haven't touched the router or its settings since it was reflashed with DD-WRT v24. i always had a 130mbps connection, and very stable 5/5 bars of reception, after my reflash. it worked great for about 2-3 months. then about 2 weeks ago, i would get constant (at least 10 a day) dropped connections and my connection speeds would creep down to a snail's pace.
could someone please give me some insight on this situation cuz i have had it. i cannot afford for these annoyin nick nack problems. i am literally about to throw this router against the wall and buy a new one. could some knowledgeable folks PLEASE help me out. this is a problem i cannot have. -
it could be a hardware issues with your wireless in your puter, or its your router...
-
pretty sure its the router.
where the wireless gurus at when i need them? -
well then if its your router maybe its seen its final days...
-
i would hate to think that when my router is only 3-4 months old. =\
