Well, I have yet again updated the driver. This time to 9.0.3.0. Connection issue does not appear to have been fixed. Its been installed 20 minutes and already I have seen speed variations from 5.5 up to 54mbps.
When I look at advanced statistics, the directed packet list shows 74% at 54mbps; 25% 48mbps; 1% 24mbps. However, the tray icon has been at 5.5mbps several times in the last 20 minutes. So even the statistics reporting of this latest version seems to be off!
It's been sitting at 5.5 now for 5 minutes. Seems to be even worse than the last version of the driver. I may have to roll back to that version!
This sure is a frustrating problem.
-
-
Another question: Does anyone know what the Roaming box in Advanced Statistics is showing? I have a "Roaming Count" of 30 and a "Poor Beacon Quality" of 30. "Percent Missed Beacons" varies from 4 to 8%?
-
If this doesn't solve it, it could be something with your router. -
That is the link I used. The program uninstalls before installing the new software and driver. Everything is reported as 9.0.3.0. in the Help>About box in the wireless software. The driver is reported as 9.0.3.9 in device manager??? It was working better for me before this install.
-
Well, uninstall everything; reboot the machine and install that from that link. That's the only way I got it to work. If I did otherwise, it wouldn't solve the problem.
I've been for two days at constant 54mbps and excellent singal quality. -
Hi to all on this thread! I have been following this with interest as I have had the same speed drop/disconnect/reconnect issues with a new Packard Bell EasyNote L4013 with the Intel 2200BG.
The laptop was supplied with driver 9.0.1.9 and PROset 9.0.1.0. I have tried as much tweaking as possible with these versions, with no success. I have now installed the new versions (9.0.3.9 and 9.0.3.0) from the Intel website (what a maze!) and fingers crossed, all seems well.
A couple of tweaks to the new versions which may help those still experiencing problems - try turning the "roaming aggressiveness" in Adapter Settings to minimum. I haven't done the full experiment yet, but I suspect this prevents the laptop "wandering" from one AP to another looking for signal. In the advanced statistics, I only had two events where the 2200BG "roamed" due to "poor beacon" (whatever that means) and they seemed to correlate with a neighbour's AP being switched on! Interestingly enough, I was watching streaming video (at 240 kbits/s), and this didn't twitch during these events - a distinct improvement!
I have also set the 2200BG to associate only with my AP (by setting a "mandatory MAC address") and excluded other neighbours' APs from connection attempts.
Ok, that's what I've done - I'll report back in a few days with news... -
Three days working flawlessly with that driver I posted. It actually works!
-
Yeah, some new drivers can really help when your having problems with wireless, but then some new ones always have that chance of not working with your current setup.
-
I just formatted my laptop just to verify that this was the way to go and that it wasn't solved by luck.
Indeed, upon a fresh start I installed that driver I posted before and it works perfectly.
This solved the issue for my Toshiba Satellite M65-SP811.
So, format c: and you should be alright. :toshiba: -
I had read all the 36 pages, tried every suggestion without any luck.
Yesterday I found out about the new 9.0.3.0 drivers, I did the complete uninstall of the 9.0.2.1, rebooted the system and installed the new one.
No luck, then I remembered to go to Power Management options unchecked the default value dropped the bar to lowest value and then raised it to 'Highest' (as sugested in intel's site) to force the new settings to be applied.
Now everything seems fine. I've been using the wifi link for hours in places where connection would drop in less then 5 minutes.
Hope that helps anyone else out there.
Now I'm in peace with my HP dv4170us.
:hp: -
Yeah, there are so many different make/models of computers out there, its almost a different solution for each pc. You just have to sit down and try some different things and hope for the best.
Nice job azambuja, hope it continues to work. -
Nickspohn, I think you've hit the nail on the head - too many variables (apart from the 2200BG...)
Anyway, thanks to this thread, I think I'm sorted. High speeds and no disconnects since my last post. No speeds below 36 Mbps reported, and consistently PROSet Advanced Statistics report transmitted packet speeds of 54Mbps and recieved packet speeds of between 24 (~70%) and 36 (~30%) Mbps. The only issue I've had has been an occasional failure to properly get the WPA key when coming out of Standby. This seems to be a PROSet problem, as I'm now letting Windows manage the connection, and all has been fine all of today.
Thanks Everybody! -
Glad to hear that Paul!
Well like you said that you never get below 36mbps. I guess thats the case for all wireless cards becasue i have gotten that issue on my linksys card and 2100B card. So just to let people know that if you get 36, your in good shape. -
Update on my situation...I was wrong...I installed the newest intel drivers and I thought everything was fine and dandy, but nope...it was going stronger than before, but the signal still weakened after a while...
I tried using microsoft's wireless networking software instead of the intel proset and strangely enough the signal stayed more consistent, with no signal weakening below 36mbps...I dunno, maybe it's a fluke, but I'm staying with it
Cheers,
Mike -
We now have a second HP Pavilion Laptop. This one has a Broadcom 802.11b/g. That thing is rock solid. Excellent 54mbps connection 100% of the time.
Why can't Intel's do the same!!!! -
That is very good news to here! Very nice

Yes - I had a Broadcom 802.11b/g card in my last laptop - very nice.
Right now, I have an Intel PROSet 2915. Works excellent, a constant 54Mbps throughout my house and outside.
Maybe it's just an issue with the 2200. -
lol..... of course it is only the problem with 2200, otherwise this thread wouldn't be called "Wireless issues with 2200". Anyway, the new driver worked with me too.
-
I guess it all depends on your environment, as living in an apartment with many people around you with wireless networks and cordless phones, it's hard to get a consistent connection.
I'm happy with my connection now, but will be happier once I get my hands on an atheros mini-pc card and a Belkin Pre-N pc-card for home use for the full 108mbps throughput for lan purposes
Cheers,
Mike -
What kind of router do you have Mike? An A router would really help avoid those interferences since it operates on a 5 GHz rather than 2.4GHz which is your common devices. (Phones, Microwaves, etc.)
-
Thanks to all for posting the link to these new Intel drivers. I have benefited from the experiences of others! After performing a total uninstall of the existing drivers, updating to the newest version, then tweaking the performance settings I am up and running with a VERY stable 54MB connection that has not dropped in 3 days. Previously I had 4-5 drops ever day. Incredible improvement!
Did others notice that their task bar now has an Intel Pro wireless connection icon which is responsible for turning on/off wifi instead of the "network connection" icon that was there previously? -
I believe that just came with the new driver or you set it that way when you said you worked with the settings. No big deal though.
-
-
nickspohn...I have a Belkin Pre-N router. I'm not going to invest in another router, so it's okay.
My connection is pretty good now with the new driver update and switching over to microsoft instead of intel's proset software.
I'm gonna use this for a while then try proset again to see if it makes any difference.
Cheers,
Mike -
Ok, let us know how it goes!

Hi,
I've posted on this thread before, and been following it for months now.
I've downloaded the latest driver and seem to be worse than before if that's possible!
The strange thing is that the signal strength shows up as excellent, usually at 54mbps, but I lose internet connection if I'm inactive for more than about 20 seconds. Although even that is not the only scenario.
With this new software, you can easily switch on/off the wireless. I discovered that if I swith it off then on again, the internet works fine, briefly, until the next dropout.
Another laptop on the network with a Netgear rangemax PCMCIA card has none of these problems. My router is a Netgear FWG114P.
I feel there is some setting that I haven't got right, but I've put everything to the max, enabled only the g band, fiddled with the channels...... and any other of the numerous helpful suggestions.
Looking forward to some help soon, or I'll go and buy another PCMCIA card and stop wasting the hours on this b**** intel card!!
thanks.
Have rebooted the router and modem, and things are stable for the moment! Fingers crossed.
3 hours later, dropouts have started again, every couple of minutes, the network monitor still shows full signal.
-
Yes, Dotty, mine now does the same thing with the latest driver. The only way I can get it back to excellent and 54mbps is to cycle the button to turn off and then on the wireless.
-
If yes, then this is not how I did it. I just ran the Intel program and it installed over the old version. It does show the latest driver in device manager.
Let me know if I should completely uninstall and then run the file and I'll try that.
Thanks! -
interesting shepard that the same thing happens to you. I'm now a lot more stable, but when I leave the laptop for even a couple of minutes I get timeout messages on my mailwasher. but it all picks up again as soon as I get back to work, without having to reset the wireless. Can't remember if I changed anything now, Ive done so many different things!!
-
) you'll note lots of people commenting on the critical nature of removing the existing drivers, then installing the new drivers... NOT overwriting the existing drivers. I tried simply overwriting the existing drivers as well and it did nothing for my signal... even though during installation is says its removing the old ones! I'm at a about a week or more with perfect signal, not even one loss or drop below 54MB. Try the above complete removal and reinstall. On pages 35-37 of this thread there are a few tweaks with regard to the performance settings in the 2200 device under Device Manager in the drivers tab of the 2200 device; use these once you get it reinstalled and rebooted. Someone read the Intel site at length and found these suggestions for max performance. I did ALL of them, though I don't know if they were totally necessary. If you are feeling frustrated, I empathize. This signal problem is a major bummer. Let me know if the above works!

Hey. I installed intel's new driver for 2200bg and it worked for me, but if i try to enable WPA2, the notebook is tryin to connect to the router saying "authorization in progress" and then disconnects and then trying again and so on...
I got Gateway M680 and Linksys WRT54GS. -
Try going to the linksys site, then support, then downloads and choose your router then hit firmware. Its most likely you need a firmware upgrade. Good Luck!
-
the thing is that i have latest firmware, but its not original, from http://dd-wrt.gruftie.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php?link=news
they say it supports WPA2... -
Wow, this thread started in Feb and is still active. Any problems STILL with the b/g that we should be aware of?
-
Try disabling your firewall and security and see if that will help. Good luck
-
Sony just posted a new set of drivers on their website for my VGN-FS550 notebook with the Intel 2200bg wireless adapter.
Installation of this driver did NOT solve my problems. After re-installation of the latest Intel software and the purchase of a new D-Link router, my connection only occasionally drops/slows and needs to be repaired. I have had about 6 sets of drivers, 2 Netgear routers, 1 Linksys router and now 1 D-Link Router in an attempt to solve my problems. -
Guys need some help ..
Got the Dell Inspiron two days back ..I have a wireless router @ home..
The computer got connected to the internet just fine yesterday but today ..the Icon on the task bar says "no supported wireless adapter available". Also whe I try to go to My Network I dont get an option to look for any available wireless networks.
One other thing is ..when I start my laptop I get a popup message that New hardware found..when I try to install it It cant find the driver..
Should I try to download the "Intel® PRO 2915 " driver from the dell website ? I tried calling the Dell help desk but I coundlnt get through..
Any help is greatly appreciated..
Regards

Yes, you need to install that driver from there site. This will most likely fix your problems.

Do you really need WPA2? If one is good enough and stable enough, I wouldn't bother to try another one. I have Linksys SRX v1 and intel wireless b/g. It is rock stable. I would stay away from d-link if possible. My friend has a d-link wireless router. He keep getting his wireless disconnected, and I suggested him to replace the router with netgear or linksys. He ended up getting a $100 netgear business wireless router (not cheap $30 wireless router), he has no problem since. Wireless router may be cheap and cost about $30-50, but the quality is really bad for that kind of price. I would suggest people to get very good quality wireless router by spending more money, in return, you will have a lot less headache and frustration.

SOLUTION !! SOLUTION !!!
Like you I was having issues with the 2200BG. It would connect okay to my Linksys router and I could surf the internet fine, but when I streamed music from itunes over my wireless lan to my apple express airtunes base station the audio would cut in and out making it un-useable. I have read through most of this forum, tried the latest drivers, all with no help.
I came to the conclusion I needed a new wireless point, but did not want to use a PCIMA card as they stick out the side of my laptop. Then I found this a Gigabyte GN WIAG02 from scan.co.uk http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=219713
For £16 my problem was sorted. This is a direct replacement for the 2200BG as long as you can access the mini PCI slot containing the 2200BG in your laptop. I have an ACER 8000 which has a removable cover on the bottom.
Now I can listen to itunes from anywhere in my house without any problems.
There is one thing I did not try before replacing my card I have just found on another forum: http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-006205.htm Give it ago, but if it does not work then buy a new miniPCI wireless card and say good bye to the 2200BG. One last thing, pass the word http://www.buyacar.co.uk I bought a new car from them today and saved lots of money -
Yea, i know that a mini-pci card will solve it. But in Singapore it is hard to find mini-pci cards, and they will cost about 120 SGD, while a PCIMA card wil only cost 55 SGD. Yea.

ATTENTION: ANYONE WITH THE INTEL PROSET 2200BG WIRELESS PROBLEM.
After trying a whole lot of stuff I found a solution that should work with every computer. Download an old version of the intel driver from this site and install it: http://www.fujitsupc.com/downloads/mobile/S6210_WLAN_INTEL_V8.0.12.9000_XP.EXE
It seems to disable to whole Power Save Polling feature and makes your internet nice and stable (and a little less battery-efficient). I am not sure whether this driver also works with the Intel 2915ABG chipset, but I imagine it may well do so.
Enjoy! -
Its different for everyone really. Plus, thats a Fujitsu site when there are a lot of problems with dells. But if anyway can confirm this, it would be a great find.
-
The problems aren't just with Dells - I have a Toshiba M35-S325 and I've had the problem since I bought my computer. The issue is that Intel added this Power Save Polling thing, but most routers don't support it. Unfortunately, even when you supposedly put the computer in "Constant Aware Mode" it doesn't completely fix the problem. The website may be Fujitsu, but all you will find at that link is Intel drivers - specifically, older ones than you will find on the Intel website. The advantage of using them is that it disables PSP and fixes all those problems.
It should solve a lot of issues with PSP - give it a go. It is working really well on my computer. -
Here's a website for a quick fix for DELL laptop (code 39 problems) involving PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection, (R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG :
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...n&releaseid=R107434&formatcnt=1&fileid=139213
It's an installer package for driver version 9.0.2.31 and PROSet/Wireless utility version 9.0.2.11 supporting either Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection or Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. -
can anybody post a link to the old 8.0.0.0 version of the driver?
-
http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=download&modelno=1282/M12CW
I believe this is what you need -
Good call on those files nickspohn. They really do solve the problem pretty much completely. I am using the fujitsu files I linked to above and they have solved all my problems!
-
weird, when i try to install the fujitu drivers (or even the generic 8.0.x.x ones) the installation process stops about half way (not responding anymore so i have to end it). I have a dell 6000
