First off...love the forum...first time poster...
I've read several items concerning how a cordless phone can interfere with a wireless network, but can the opposite be true? A wireless network interfering with a cordless phone?
Reason I'm asking is that ever since I've set up my home network, my cordless phone has a lot of static. Now, when I get outside calls to my house line, the answering machine picks up and then hangs up automatically and sometimes even the line isn't fully disconnected and then people calling in are left with a busy signal. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Could my answering machine, which is bundled with my cordless phone be getting a confused signal from my wireless connection allowing it to think the phone was answered?
If this problem isn't common, then I'll just have to assume my cordless phone/answering machine has crapped out.

I highly doubt its the wireless internet setup in your house interferring with the telephone or the answering machine beceause i have 3 cordless phones all with answering machines in my house and I have a wireless internet setup also in my house. In fact my wireless router is right next to one of the cordless phones and I have no problem whatsoever so it might be your phone that is messed up but then again anything can happen.

Theoretically, it COULD be possible if your wireless and cordless phone were running on the exact same frequency... but that would only happen when you're using the cordless phone; I don't think that would have anything to do with your answer machine crapping out.

turn off your wifi setup and test your phone

You might need to install phone line filters if your the internet connection is DSL. I know verizon gave us some when we ordered their service. The phones do have more static than they used to, even with the filters.

I too have 2.4GHz cordless phones, with a DSL connection and filters and I also have a wireless access point right next to one of the phones. Sometimes I feel like the phones are somehow affected (I seem to be getting more echo), but sometimes I don't notice any strange effects. In any case I don't notice any serious problems, like static.

I have 2.4GHz phones in my house. When I first got my router, every time the phone rang I would loose my wireless signal. I called comcast, and they said to put the channel of the router on either the highest (11) or lowest (1). After that, it worked fine, no lost connections.
So, you may want to change the channel on your router to one extreme or the other.

If you dont know how to change it, there is a option if you type your ip address bar in a browser, or just put your routers cd in the computer and install it again but change the channel as i bet you have channel 6 because its the default channel. It gives off minor different frequences which one being the lowest and a higher number is the highest.

Yeah, sometimes I get some echo too, but mostly, its a light static that wasn't there before I got DSL. The phone is 800 or 900 MHz, I don't recall which. I can live with it for getting my interet @ $15/month.

Thanks for the responses. To give you an update, my whole phone system went down completely, so it had nothing to do with the phone or the wireless connection. Phone cables outside are defective and the phone company will be coming to fix.
