I'm having a strange wireless connection problem. Ever since I got my new Asus laptop listed below, the wireless capabilities when I'm at home are really acting weird. Every once in a while, the wireless connection between the laptop and our Linksys WRT54G2 router suddenly stops transmitting data. It doesn't lose the connection to the Internet, according to Windows, it just stops transmitting anything. Firefox/IE sits at Waiting for sites, online games stop part way, etc... It won't start retransmitting until after a while on its own. Disconnecting/reconnecting, IPCONFIGs, everything doesn't seem to change a thing. I'm getting tired of this problem, because it's starting to interfere in playing MP games like L4D2. The wireless works fine everywhere else, and wired works fine, too. I'm at my wits end. Thanks to those who help.

Sounds like Interference. Have you tried changing channels?
-
The one thing I haven't tried. I've mainly thought it was my laptop as other computers using our wireless have no problems. I'll change it from 6 to 11 and see if that does anything.
-
Yeah, it just doesn't sound like a software problem. At least from the client side. But it is pretty random you said.
-
So far, after changing the channel, things seem to be more stable. I was able to get through a whole campaign in L4D2 without any problems. I don't know what was causing the interference, but things seem better now. Thanks for that, I was at my wits end.

Well, Wireless G uses the 2.4 GHz Spectrum, which can be a crowded place. Glad it worked out.
-
Well, it seems it mostly was able to work, but now it's happening again. This time, it only just happened a few seconds before this post. Changing channels, while seemed to help for a while, isn't the permanent fix I was hoping it would be. Any other ideas?

Now we need more info on your wireless network. Mixed or G only? Security protocol?
And it is all your computers that stop receiving data at once? -
Mixed. WEP secure. SSID Broadcast on. Channel 11.
No, I'm the only one having the problem. My father's little HP netbook has no problems at this wireless network.
EDIT: Now it's getting to the point where the wireless connection is degrading to a Local Only connection, according to the Network and Sharing Center. Geez, it's like its slowly dying to the point where I won't be able to access the wireless network at all at home... -

Switch the Security to WPA(2) AES unless you have some old hardware which requires it. Some hardware has problems with WEP. Also with WEP you may be getting attacked to see if they (someone) can break the wep auth. Which is relative easy with WEP. Some kids may be testing there breaking skills on you.
-
lol.
You can DC a WPA network easily by sending a DEAUTH packet.
Anyways, the disconnects seem so random, it could be anything. Gonna start throwing the whole gauntlet of ideas at it.
Drivers, Bluetooth devices, other wireless devices, etc. How far is the router anyways? -
Drivers are up to date, as far as I believe, but it's something I should double check. I have Bluetooth capabilities on this laptop, but I use no Bluetooth devices with it (so the Bluetooth is doing nothing). The laptop is in the basement while the router is upstairs, so probably no more than a few meters.

I found out the problem. Apparently it's the wireless phone in my house. When it rang, my connection was GONE altogether. When the call ended, the connection came back. But I've changed the channels on my router across the whole available spectrum and it still gets interference from the phone. What else can be done here?
-
I figured it was hardware interference.
All you can really do is get a new phone. The newer ones use the 5GHz spectrum, which won't overlap with the wireless G (2.4GHz). -

The newer phones are using a 1.8ghz bandwidth so they will not interfere with wireless networks.
-
Yeah, I'll have to see if a new phone will fix the problem once and for all. I'll report back when I manage to get one.
-
Well, I got a new DECT6.0 phone to replace the old 2.4GHz phone we have. The problem that happened before, where the connection would drop when a call comes in, has stopped. But, the same problem that I originally stated is still occurring. Things just stop transmitting but the connection stays on. I'm at my wits end here...
