Is there a way to let people use your wireless connection without typing in your security password?

If your router has the ability to set up a guest network, yes. It basically creates a separate network that you can put a simple password on for friends to use that's completely separate from your main one. What make/model of router do you have?

If you have windows 7 you may be able to do this with a laptop or your computer if you have the correct wireless card or wireless adapter. So what wireless card is in you windows 7 laptop or adapter in your desktop etc.

I was visiting someone who said they did not have a router but could allow me to go online on my computer. I'm not sure what they did by I know they had to copy my MAC address on their computer. I was able to get on-line with an 'unsecured' connection. I don't think they had a router that I saw.
I'm just curious what they did to allow me internet access. -
how create a security wall with wireless signals.

Sorry- I don't understand the question. Can you please rephrase it?

I was wondering what this person did? Did he set up a VPN between his computer and the other computers? I don't believe there was a router, but could be wrong. I was able to connect wirelessly to his network?
I don't understand how I was able to connect through a computer without a router?
One other point. His signal showed up in my list of available wireless connections. It was unsecured. He explained what he was doing, but I didn't understand. I felt uneasy about it. -
He probably was filtering connection by MAC addresses. Simply, you enter the mac address of the device in the router settings to tell it to allow the device. That's not something i would do personally though.
See post below for why i wouldn't use MAC filtering alone. It's a bad idea to have the less secure network in the area, you're likely to be the first one to get his network hacked if you are in a highly populated area. Stick with a good password even if it's a pain to enter it for every new device that connects to your network. -
I agree- it that was only MAC-based security, it was no security at all.

Possibly running ICS or another connection sharing product, hard to tell without having the principals involved.

Since I put 7 on my laptop I have been using it as an access point so my son and his girlfriend can hook up there book readers and cell phones to wifi. The router that I hook up to with wireless was not very user friendly for hooking up these devices.
