Hey guys, Just picked up my DV7T today and I wanted to transfer my files off my old desktop via the wireless network.
My old PC has XP pro
Laptop is running Vista.
Can anyone help me setup a folder that I can use to share between the two ?

Transferring files via the network will be slow (according to the total size of the files)...it would be best to use an external HDD or USB drive.
Nevertheless, the first thing you will need to do is install THIS on the XP Machine. -

Your work groups will be different between XP and Vista, needs to be the same. I would use a wired connection for the transfers, faster.

That or just use a USB drive if you've got one available; sometimes the old-school tech, like sneakernet, is just less time-consuming than the latest high-tech.

Yeah I've been using my 1 Gig flash drive at the moment, almost got everything transfered that I needed.
Thanks. -
I do that all the time - got an 8GB flash drive stick just for that purpose. Sometimes it makes more sense to use one's feet than to use one's head!

Setting up a folder share under Vista isn't any different from XP. Infact, even without both computers being in the same workgroup, just type in the computer's IP address into Explorer and that will allow you to browse their network shares.
XP --> Vista laptop file transfer through wireless network ?
