Hey,
Time for a new router.
Was curious which of these two would you go for. I don't have N devices so thats not really an issue. What I do want is good QoS which I know 4500 has. Is the 655 based on same QoS engine?
-
i believe it is. and I think either of them is a good choice. the 4500 is a little higher in price, but not that much.
-
I have both, the 4500 has a better manual QoS.
-
Alternatively I could get a ****ty router to keep me going till the dir-855 becomes cheap enough (guess like 6 months).
Think this is a better choice? -

If your not doing huge file transfers between your PC's and good router with 11g will work fine. If you need to do large file transfers and your equipment supports GigE, get a gige E router, then use the wired ports when needed. Most all 11g routers are more than fast enough to handle what the ISP provides. It's the internal wireless speeds that get the boost with 11n.

it was more the problem that I have a big storage server and when someone is getting data, my gaming pings skyrocket

You can setup QoS for your gaming to have a higher priority than your storage unit.
I use a 16 port managed switch for all of my wired pc's that support it and some that do not. With 2 NAS's on at all times, internally I go through the switch without going through my main router, gige speeds. And my router has the ftp service pointed to the ftp server. You may want to check your logs file on your servers. I had hackers pounding mine 24/7 trying to get in, most all from china. I blocked their compete subnets, then I moved the port above 1024 to get away from the sniffers. So the last 6mo has been clean and makes the www faster.
dir-655 or dgl-4500
