ok..so im thinkin of upgrading my home network..we currently have a 512kbps ADSL net connection..i was looking at the ASUS WL-700GE ROUTER..how does tht look??the only reason i was attracted to it was its ability to download even with the computers switched off..but apparently its BT manager is not upto par wit BT programs..and it is only b and g compatible..should i rather go an n wireless router??
the reason i hav an issue wit keepin the computer on is tht my parents complain the electricity bill goes up!!!haha.. so instead should i get a n wireless router and keep my laptop on when im downloading???the router and stuff are upstairs, and sometime i have signal trouble downstairs so will n help??also if i get n, i'll need to buy an adapter for my laptop..which might b a bit annoying eh?
also..my desktop doesnt hav an ethernet port, so can i get any PCI network card(10/100/1000) and and jus shove it in to my computer and will tht do??
thanks in advance..

Hi,
if you upgrade to a wireless router you dont need the pcs on with any router that's not just with that router.
if you buy either a wireless pci card or usb adapter that will do the trick just fine
hope this helps

yeah..but is it ok to keep my laptop also on 24/7???
now i thought of gettin the asus router, and using my present wireless AP as a repeater..with the asus, would i need another modem or does it hav one? -
AFAIK there is no problem keeping your laptop on 24/7

I keep two of my laptops and a desktop on 24/7 and have been for 2 years, no problems yet. -

Now it if they are concern about electricty usage, they would scream in my house. I have some much server and Network hardware I had to add a window unit to cool the room. And I have a pc that receives all of the the snmp traps from all of the equipment. All backed up on 2 (1000 & 1500va) APC UPS. Most all of it has been on for over 4 yrs now without being shut down, except with one power outage that last 4 hrs. It was long enough to exhaust my batteries in the UPS.
Just have your display go to sleep, that is where most of the power draw is. That way it will look like it's off and your saving energy.
