Hey all,
Needs some recommendations for my home network. Recently bought a Dlink DIR-655 Xtreme N router.
My current home network looks like this:
1)my Dell XPS m140 laptop with Intel PRO 2200 wireless 802.11b/g
2)my wife on Lenovo T61 with Iogear 802.11b/g usb adapter(it's loan from her company, so no built in wireless)
3)sony media center PC without internet connection because I can't split the cable from outlet to cable box and cable modem, lose modem signal. Would like to stream netflix movies and watch on the plasma tv in our bedroom.
Next week, I should be receiving a dell xps m1330 with 4965 wireless a/b/g/n card and sellling my m140.
My questions are:
1)Is there any benefit in getting an xtreme N wireless PCI adapter for my HTPC as opposed to a regular wireless usb adapter for it?
2)Will there be any difference in the speed of internet browsing and downloading if I were to upgrade my wife's usb adapter to a 802.11n adapter or an Xtreme N expresscard?
Not sure if the benefit of "Xtreme N" is limited to WLAN network speed. We have cable internet thru Time Warner 7mbps service.
Thanks

2. the diff in internet browsing and downloading is limited to the max of your ISP. To achieve the fastest Network speed, your wife's rig will need a d-link adapter to hit the 300mbps. N is really for networking/gaming since no isp can deliver those speeds.

Yeah I guess though that the N offers you over the other routers is extended wireless distance, that is the only internet benefit you will recieve. Not really see any increased speed over the internet just on your LAN itself.

If you had a dual band setup you could put the media on it's own bandwidth. and keep you 11g where it is.
