The past 3 weeks this card has been acting up, it never works right for any extended amount of time. Before that though, it's been just fine, no issues at all. Now, however, I have a hard time accessing the internet on any network I encounter. I can find the network and connect to it but my access is either always local only or limited connectivity.
What can I do to fix this? I've tried everything I can think of. I have even downloaded the latest drivers from HP (this is on my HP DV5t).
Even when I am able to connect, after browsing for a few minutes, the connection will just time out. The icon and network status will say that I am still connected to the internet, but no pages will load or anything. This is super frustrating. Ive read other people having similar issues with this card, is there anything I can do to fix this?
The laptop in question is a HP DV5T with Vista x64.

Tried re-start router(s)?
cheers ... -
i had bit similar issues after installing a local language version (czech) of Nokia PC Suite. totally weird... but after uninstalling it, connection works smoothly again. english version doesn't seem to cause it so far. i mean... have you installed any new application when the issue started to happen?
does HP offer really the lastest drivers? check intel site...

GHN is correct - the problem isn't your adapter, it's likely your Router settings or a combination of the settings on both. You should check your incoming signal to see the strength - I'd bet it's pretty low.
Control Panel - Network & Sharing - Signal Strength is indicated below your Network name.
You can also go to Manage Wireless Networks, click on Adapter Properties, and check/adjust your adapter settings to match your Router as well.
Many people make the mistake of selecting a specific channel or band on their router - unless you have specific adapters of the same standard, that usually causes problems. Set your Mode to Mixed. For channels, offset the frequency from the base (2.4) so that it's set apart from other devices that might interfere with your signal (cordless phones, microwaves, etc.)
Make sure your Router's radio signal is set to High as well (depending on your Router). -
I too am having troubles and believe it to be this card.
Every 30 minutes I have to repair the connection. Sometimes I have to repair it twice. we've restarted the router. Also of note, other computers on the network are not having the same issue. This computer is having the issue whether it's the only active computer or whether there are others on it.
What type of security does your network have? I have been fine on other networks but the one here is a problem. I believe I have WPA but have to check in the Am. -
It could be the card itself, as I believe that the 5100 series of cards has had some "issues" with things like staying connected.

Would you recommend I take the issue up with Intel or with where I bought the PC (lenovo)?
-
Start with Lenovo, since that's the entity through which you'll get warranty coverage (if it's still valid).

I'm sure its the card. it does this on every network. i've pretty much given up using the internet, its extremely frustrating. I'll try to call HP tomorrow. The 5100 really sucks. I've actually been trying to reply to this thread for days, I can't get it to stay connected long enough to actually make it here to post. I wonder how many other 5100 owners have run into this problem.
the card is transmitting data but not receiving it. I can ping all servers and get a response, but cannot actually use the internet at all.
I just downloaded a new driver update last night, we'll see if this changes anything. -
I have this card and a Samnsung R610-64G, and for a while the wireless was working well, then one day out of nowhere the wireless connection stops showing up in my network places. I can still use the wireless function at this point but when I moved out of signal, it stopped. Ive installed and uninstalled and installed drivers, the "intel PRO WIFI" through add/remove programs, and the wireless connection light/antenna light is active on the laptop, but for some reason Windows isnt recognizing my wireless hardware or something. In "System Settings" and the "Hardware" panel, Intel PRO Wifi link 5100 AGN shows up under "Network Adapters" and it says the driver is up to date and functioning, but when I do diagnostics through the Intel Pro Wifi Connection Wizard it says "hardware failure" and "Transport driver not bound" and "No wireless adapters available on this system". Ive done all I can think of, and I think I did it right but any help is appreciated, because I dont want to use a laptop and have to use a wired connection because that's just absolutely ridiculous.

Well, if the Intel diagnostics are reporting a hardware failure, then that seems pretty conclusive to me - the NIC itself needs to be replaced. Hopefully you still have warranty coverage.
intel wifi link 5100 agn troubles.
