ipconfig not working....

I'm running Windows 7 and I want to set up a static ip address for when i'm at home and so I went to run ipconfig/all in the cmd line.

When I do that it doesn't show my wireless adapter's current details.

All I get is what's below. Repetitious lines of tunnel adapter. I don't know what to make of this and I was wondering what is going on and what I can do to get it back to normal.

A while back I had Clear and a guy had me run a few commands in that same black window. I honestly don't remember what we did but he claimed it would help me get a faster connection with Clear WiMax. To make a long story short it didn't and I ended up canceling Clear 4G WiMax due to ultra slow web browsing experience plus very high latency.

Odd. I assume the adapter does not show up in Network and Sharing?

 

The tunnel adapters are for IPV6. It does seem like you have an excessive amount ...

 

My wireless card is the intel wifi 5100 AGN

It shows up fine when i go into "change adapter settings" within the network and sharing center.

I've tried googling the issue and I can't find anything concrete. I tried selecting "Enable" for NetBIOS over TCP/IP but that didn't do anything.

And this was not happening when I first got the laptop.

As for IPv6 when I click on it within the Intenl 5100's main page it shows

1) Install
2) Properties

I also clicked on IPv4 for the wireless adapter and it gives me the same options too....so I have no idea what's going on..

I can connect to the internet just fine and I get really good speeds. It's just that I get all this random verbage when I run ipconfig/all and I have no idea why....

So it doesn't look like it's been installed...I've ran across random posts that said that was the issue but it cant be here because its not even installed right?

 

I'm not sure if I understand you right but since you want a static IP adress why not go to properities for IPv4/v6 and set it up there?

 

additionally, are you doing or have you done anything with IPv6 on this machine?

 

Try typing ipconfig without the /all

 

It's usually installed and activated by default on most windows pcs

And as for setting up a static ip I guess I could go to the details section and get the info that way but I'm a lil concerned about the whole ipconfig/all issue. It never use to do that before...now it is.

If it's installed on all windows pcs why is that when I click on properties and click on it the uninstall button isn't available? Is it hidden or something?

 

Probably can't be uninstalled. It looks exactly the same on my computer.

 

Probably wont work but give the ipconfig /release * command a go

 

and then ipconfig /renew

Anyways for static IP for me it would always be done via the router not the computer.

 

I've never tried setting a Windows static Ip from IPconfig.
Usually it's done through network adapter settings.

Ipconfig is just a way to verify and reset things.

Also I've gotten a Blue Screen 2 times in the last 48 hours...should I be very worried about my laptop? All these random things are starting to happen to it after almost 2 solid years of great performance for the most part....

 

You are right. All ipconfig does is display info. Netstat si where you go to change it.

 

Look up a small program called BlueScreenView.
it is quite helpful at deciphering the bluescreen information.

Usually when I see things like that, it's either a bad update, bad mobo capacitors, or memory gone bad. Usually the first and last. The first being a pain to deal with, the last, being a real pain if it corrupted data.

 

well to get rid of any IPv6 stuff you can uncheck the box in the adapter properties but I don't think that will help much

 

you need to edit the registry to completely disable ipv6

 

You shouldn't need to disable Ipv6 in Win7, it was only pre-Sp1 Vista that had significant problems with it.
