I just sold my WRT54G-TM flashed router and bought and replaced with a WRT610N and was just looking at the firmware for this ver.2 and looked at the DD-WRT firmware and was thinking about changing the stocked firmware
I feel that my WRT54G-TM was a little faster then this New 610N but I've only been on it for a little over a half hour only, I tried the 2 bands 2.4-5.0
has anyone here switched firmware ? is it any better ?
-
im running dd-wrt same router i have version 1 though it is a bit faster then linksys firmware
-
which firmware are you running with it ?
-
V2 is a bit faster than V1, so you may not see much difference in speed.
-
shouldn't have sold that WRT54G-TM so fast, I just flashed the firmware in this WRT610N and I'm not happy it's about the same as with the linksys I'm getting lags watching justin tv wireless where as I didn't have that before
-
i sold my 600 and 610n , they could never stream video well , always breaking up and stalls . tried ddrt sveasoft tomato , nothing really helped
-
i have two of them bridged wirelessly and i am on dd wrt and works good for me! i was able to stream with one before i picked up the second one. but for some reason my mac cant connect to the router when the ssid is hidden. other than that i am over all satisfied. (i have to put in the ssid everytime to connect. only with the mac not windows or any other device with wireless)
-
I removed the DD-WRT firmware and went back to the linksys I couldn't see the 2 bands with the DD-WRT and had some trouble with a windows notebook but the Mac worked fine with it, also I called linksys because of dropping issues, when I went to connect with the windows notebook it would connect and drop out and even made my mac drop it's connection, when I called linksys they said they wouldn't help me with a third party firmware and said to put the firmware back and that it might even void the warranty on it, anyway I never called back and got it running pretty well for now,
just a question on why you bridged to routers what's the purpose of that ? -
My mac keeps loosing the ssid when I shut the lid on the notebook it picks up an open wifi all the time and then I have to go to the icon and connect to mine anyone else have this problem and if so is there a fix to it ?
-
i am in the same boat. my windows pc's can pick up the hidden ssid while my mac cant! i do not get it.
-
I'm very disappointed in this router this doesn't load pages very fast either (it lags for too long),
I'm sorry i sold the WRT54G-TM no wonder it went in 5 minutes after putting it up on ebay I might have to go and get another soon
why in hell did I think I could do better in wireless

Give Buffalo a try, I have had good luck with there routers with dd-wrt firmware. They have a new HP model out with Gige on Lan and Wan. Not sure if it's a dual band.

This does not get along with apple and I'm not sure if it's a compatible issue with windows or not but after formatting today and running linksys software and connecting windows and apple together with wireless printer I've had issues with my macbook and iphone
desktop windows gigabyte DQ6 X48 windows XP pro
windows notebook vista ultimate
macbook pro <<<<<<<<<<<< issues dropped connection
iphone 3GS <<<<<<<<<<<<<< issues showed issue in desktop icon
PS3
printer brother 2071W all wireless together
anyone interested in a 17" macbook pro 2.66 GHz unibody -

Some devices does not support wpa2, try dropping back to WPA with SSID being in the clear (broadcasted). Now here is where a problem is with 11n, it prefers WPA2.
-
what exactly do you mean by ""dropping back to WPA with SSID being in the clear (broadcasted""
-
He means set your security to WPA with SSID Broadcast ON
-
It wasn't very clear but we're talking WRT610N so there is no chance it doesn't support WPA2. I don't really think anyone could own a laptop with a WiFi card old enough not to support it either.
I agree on SSID being broadcasted. Some NIC don't work like they should with SSID hidden- but that's not to be blamed on router. -
pretty sure you can install DD-WRT firmware on that router.
I bet it solves your problems. -

Some game stations and handheld devices do not support WPA2.
