i was just wondering why linux is usually faster with wireless than windows, for me anyways?i figure it's because it uses less resources.
-
linux os are more efficient in the way they operate.
That being said, if you have the same hardware it's proably a driver issue.
Im tired, good night -
it can't be, everytime i've used any linux distro it has been faster, even on different comps.
-
It may be because Win does a lot of complicated negotiation with the network before it actually gets on.
-
Give us an example, file transferring? Internet surfing?
-
Personally I prefer Linux for networking whenever I have a choice. Although in my experience it all often boils down to how good a person is in administering the OS. Windows can use less resources if you tune it, Linux can be insecure if you open up every port.
-
It simply is not.
TCP/IP, the underlying is OS independent. If something feels faster, it is the application accessing the connection, or as someone noted, better drivers, but the underlying connection still relies on the good old OSI model.... -
Not sure whom you're rebutting. Everything that's been said here is consistent with your statement.
-
just adding to the chorus.....what, is this a private glee club?
-
Nope, it is not a private club, but did you pay your membership?
-
Now that you mention it, I do connect to wireless faster in Linux than Windows. It's probably just due to the use of less resources or better drivers as the previous posters said though.
-
Using Wicd I'm connected in Linux before I log in. On Windows, if I need to connect to a new network... well, bringing up the available network window takes something like 2 minutes while it sits there unresponsive, my system is no slouch nor is Windows infected with anything so...
linux vs windows
