i get high speed through my cable. i want to get a wireless router though so im not stuck to a cord. what is a good wirelless router that i will be able to hook up to my cable connection. i have a wireless N card but would prefer a G router because they are cheaper. im looking to spend right around 50.

exactly on your budget. It is an extremely good and reliable router. -
Cheap and lousy. I'd say to buy WRT54GL but that's some $60 so I guess you get what you pay for.

I've had mine for 5 years and havn't had any trouble with it under normal use.

If you mean WRT54G than toyue "old" WRT54G is what's now called WRT54GL and "new" WRT54G is VxWorks not Linux an has half the RAM.

sorry guys but i still dont know what i should go with. if i need to spend a little more for something better then its not a huge deal.
the linksys wrt54gl seems to have all good reviews on new egg, would it be worth sprining for that or is their something better at the same price.
like i said my internet comes threw cable and will i be able to connect the modem straight to the cable or do i need to keep the old modem and connect it to the new one threw the ethernet port? -

there is a cable in the wall connecting to your modem which you will now unplug from the modem then into the router I believe...messy cables jog my memory...
then you can either connect your desktop directly to the router via an ehternet cable or wireless if you wish to do so...that is if you have wireless capabilities on your desktop. -
OK, so the easy way. WRT54G= No. WRT54GL- yes, but it's not high tech. Good reliable, stable, you can install 3rd party firmware on it; but this router is not the best. Still you probably will not be disappointed.
If you want sth really good with a lot of features look at ASUS WL-500G Premium. http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=12&l2=43&l3=0&l4=0&model=1121&modelmenu=1
It's probably more expensive than you would like it to be, but that's one hell of a router and is a good reference of what you can expect from a router. -
I think it depends on your circumstances, security, distance, ease of use, etc. There are alot of cheap units that are hard to configure, dont have a long range, low on options and there are higher end units that offer longer ranges and tighter security as well more options. My opinion, if its just you and your home network most cheap home units work fine. GL

hmm that Asus router seems interesting. Where can i find one? Any what would exactly be one of the better G routers. As I know N is still in Draft 2.0 i believe so i rather wait till its confirmed.
