Just got a new Lat e5500 and am having some issues setting it up to find my home network. I currently have a iMac and a PC wired into my Actiontec gt704wg Gateway. The wireless is turned on and it works with our Wii. It is set up using WPA. When I try to discover a wireless connection I get two from my neighbors but I don't see mine.
thanks in advance, i am a wifi newbie...

Is your SSID set to broadcast (visible to everyone)? If not, you won't see it when you scan for networks.
-
This might sound stupid, but is the wireless enabled? Is the Wi-fi light on?
Which wireless card do you have?

The wifi connection is active - the OP's Wii can connect wirelessly.

I finally got it late last night. Apparently there are two different setup program on the computer. One is from MS and one is from Dell. The Dell program worked. They certainly don't make it easy for newbs like me! I was using a WPA and I once I went looking with the SSID I found it. Amazing how many connections I picked up in my rural TN neighborhood.
So far I am happy with the e5500. It is the first laptop I have bought. Would have gone with a Mac but needed XP for work. I will play with it some more and post up my thoughts. The screen definitely leaves something to be desired but I am comparing it to my iMac so it might not be a fair fight. I appreciate the help. -
Did you get the upgraded screen? They are better looking than the base ones.

I got the base one....

If I were you I would uninstall the Dell connection manager, unless you use WWAN.
I find the Windows one much easier to use.
And kegobeer, I was referring the the Wi-fi in the notebook. It's easy to hit the switch on the side and turn the Wi-fi off.
