I, like many others on this forum, have a bunch of questions for wireless N. I would really think it would benefit the community if someone were to make a thread on everything about pre-N (to be stickied hopefully).
Until that happy day though.. does anyone know of a good website that provides information on Pre-N? e.g. what is its lowest and highest frequency, does channel bonding/MIMO intrude on wireless G or B's frequencies?, is pre-N a software change? or do routers with pre-N have different hardware and software? if so, why does pre-N need different hardware?
I have a very large house (it was cheap; it's fixer upper, I'm not actually rich), and I don't want to use a repeater to get my wireless signal around. Would pre-N get my signal that extra 10-20 meters of coverage I need?

Even if it's not quite N yet, anything that's MIMO will help you crank out that extra bit of coverage. I'm pretty sure anything that's N or Pre-N is MIMO as well.
Once you try MIMO, you never go back. -

Depending on your setup high gain antennas can do that.

high gain antennas eh.. are these antennas that plug into my router and need extra power from a wall outlet and boost the signal? If so, that would be excellent.
I did look into upping my router's antenna output in the WRT settings, but, as you probably know, that would drastically reduce the lifetime of the router. -

No extra power required for antennas.
You could try ethernet over powerline. I have used 2wire in the past. It works pretty good but a little pricey. Any place you have a power outlet you can have ethernet service.
source for wireless N information?
