Okay guys I have run into a strange problem as to where I can not get over 3 bars of signal from on my PC. I have tried 2 laptops, and 3 different routers and can still only get 3 bars no matter if I am in the same room or a different room as the router and I think it has something to do with my pointed cathedral ceilings since nothing else has worked. Here is the funny part that it always does though, when it shows my network before I connect it shows 5 bars buy when i do connect to it it goes down to 3 bars, and this happens on both laptops and all three routers that I have tried
If anyone else has any ideas let me know, and here is a list of stuff that I have tried -
Different laptops
different routers
different channels
different security types
unplugged every other single thing in the house

You've left out the most important information
router
wireless devices.
What your describing is completely normal if you have, for example, a wireless G card and a wireless b router, or a wireless g router, and a wireless N card
The bars are determined by what your wireless card expects, so if it is expecting 54mbps and only gets 12mbps (due to max router speed), it's will give you somewhere in the neighborhood of three bars
The bars are just a graphical representation of signal strength and are not completely accurate. What you really want to determine is a sustained data rate -
Thanks but I have G cards and g routers but I did just solve my problem. I thought I had the most up to date drivers for my adapters but I was wrong, after updating the drivers for my Intel adapters I now have full signal.
Yes I feel like a dummy, I am a fourth year IT student and I overlooked the obvious first
