Which one is faster for downloads/uploads?

Wired (assuming fast or gigabit ethernet) is both faster AND more reliable than wireless. But when talking about up-/download speeds, your internet connection itself is more likely to be the limiting factor.

Agree with what Nebelwand said
I get about 5 Mbps download from my desktop and about the same from my wireless G laptop
If the distance from the access point to the laptop is long enough that there is reduced signal strength ,the throughput is reduced

Unless you're on a college Internet connection, such as the one I'm using, which completely maxes out my 10/100 Ethernet connection.
Note that the speedtest in my signature is from my home connection. -
I prefer wired if you are really looking for faster download/upload. The performance has a big difference.
Wired LANs offer superior performance. Traditional Ethernet connections offer only 10 Mbps bandwidth, but 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet technology costs little more and is readily available. Although 100 Mbps represents a theoretical maximum performance never really achieved in practice, Fast Ethernet should be sufficient for home file sharing, gaming, and high-speed Internet access for many years into the future.
