When you view the configuration. It changes daily so take the ship date with a pinch of salt. I was told by Lenovo sales support that the new models are shipping with the 170W AC/Adapter even with the single GPU configuration. So if you add a 2nd GPU you don't need to buy a new AC/Adapter. Lenovo is selling the 750m for $230.

EDIT: Lenovo is currently offering the Y500 with a single 750m for $849. I don't know how long this promo will last for anyone who's interested. :hi2:

DOUBLE EDIT: I'm giving the Y500 another try so I ordered one with the 750m and took advantage of the $849 deal. Shipping date is 4/29/13.

Any channels other than Lenovo where I might score a 750m for less than $230?

    Good info thanks.

Is it coming with Ivy Bridge CPU or Haswell. If Haswell then that's good news, means other Haswell/Kepler 2.0 laptops will be shipping soon.

Is it just me, or does a 170W adapter seem like a brick for a 15" laptop? I had a Series 7 Chronos for about a day before I determined W8 without a touchscreen is a lost cause, but even that aircraft carrier had a practical power supply.

I like the specs on this Y500 a lot, don't want a second GPU, but do need just about everything else it offers, including the 16GB capability and i7-QM. (for mobile CAD use.) I have a T400 today and can't make it stretch with 8GB - I'm at like 95% memory during normal usage.

I have heard that models shipping with the 170W are configured to not charge when powered from a 90W, even when the load is light (so that the supply has plenty of current for the battery). Any truth here?

Really, what I want is this spec with the 35W TDP i7-3632QM and a 90W adapter. But I just chatted with Lenovo and got nowhere. Anyone here know if this configuration is viable?

    and THANKS!

As the OP stated, you will get different answers from different Lenovo reps. In another thread another NBR member was told that the Y500 with the 750m single configuration comes with the 120W PSU and not the 170W. So no one really knows at this point. As far as charging issues, that's the first I heard of it. These are really good bang for the buck gaming laptops.

I ordered the dual 650M because the 750M is currently about 3 weeks out, and my T400 is really stumbling. So I'll definitely get the 170W fattie.

I'll check out the Kensington slim 120W - thanks for the suggestion. It will be half the weight of the 170W. I can always return it, and the Y500 too, if it won't charge in the configuration I'm after.

Disregard the 3 week estimated ship time. There are others who ordered a Y500 with 750m and even though the estimated ship date was a couple weeks out saw there Y500 ship with 24-48 hours. I don't know why Lenovo does that.

I'm hoping Amazon begins selling the 750m SLI version pretty soon.
