Just wanted to post up, no response from Toshiba. So far, bechmark wise, the two I have opened are about the numbers on Tom's hardware. I will drop on in my G2S and test it soon. My schedule is hectic for the next couple days, but I will see if I can get them on the phone. I have a couple of drives that I will be return to HP due to people not holding to what they have said, before they go I will offer them up at the price I paid. Look for a listing in the marketplace later today.
-
I have called HP and Toshiba. Toshiba has stated it will be covered under HP as it is an OEM part as described by Cyber. HP has stated it will be covered under a 90 day warranty where the order number and part would be submitted for replacement. This applies to all the drives purchased from this HP deal.
I would suggest to run and test the drives for quite a bit of time before this 90 day period is up. I have subjected my drives to overnight testing, error checking, etc. -
received a pair of WD Blue's today.
March 09 manufacturing date. -
thx gengerald for the update -
yup same answer from wd today on the phone. it is a hp part and would be covered by hp not wd. kinda sucks but it was a great price. im debating if i should cancel the other 12 i have on order or not.
-
. I received a Toshiba 500gb today, I thought I ordered the WD Blue!!?? In fact I'm pretty sure that's what the original receipt said...
-
you should check the receipt and complain -
So far I've got no issues with the Toshiba drive, (it's only been a few days). It's quiet, and both Win7 64bit and Ubuntu Studio 64 read it just fine with no issues. When I ordered, it didn't specify what brand. I'm just happy that it wasn't "HP" brand. I'd be sketch on it. But for $45, it was an excellent deal. I sort of wish I bought another. Those of you sending those back, maybe you should offer to the other forum members who missed out on the deal. Just ask for what you paid for it.

is there a differentiation between hdd that is good for running OS on, and hdd that are just for data storage?
because i had an external hdd that i took out and hooked it up with my desktop to run OS on it, and one of my friends thought it was giving stress to the hdd because it was supposed to be an external hdd. -
There is not mechanical differences. It is suggested to go with the quickest/largest drive for running an operating system, but anything should due. These larger drives @ 5400 RPM have high data density and thus perform similar to 7200 RPM drives. I have stressed both of my drives using Maxtor, Everest, and HDTune for over 48 hours each and they are up to the job.

Received mine today (ordered on the 4th, shipped on the 5th)
Both drives are Toshiba -
i still may cancel the order for 12 i have especially since both toshiba and wd have confirmed to me the warranty is through hp only not 3yrs. so anyone buying these its only 90days

-
Received my second order of (6) today, ordered on the 5th, shipped on the 6th

Mine still shows as 5/18 for shipping and status is still OPEN.
For some reason, the transaction for this one from my bank statement disappeared. hmmm -

My company develops custom financial applications (reason why I am up at 2AM waiting for some code to compile). Our apps are primarily designed for a mobile workforce . We test on the customers intended platform of choice within the 10 or so models we support. Although things are quickly changing we still have "Business Class" systems that have relatively small drives. We create a hidden system partition for backup/recovery

Happened to me too...

ordered last week, and on the order tracking thing, it showed an "OPEN" status, that the order was being processed, that it was scheduled for shipping on 5/14. checked yesterday (5/15), same exact thing. a while later, i got the following email:
Dear Customer,
We recently found that an order was entered on our website on your behalf, the order number in question is HPPS-XXXXXX-XXXXX and the part # requested was 497775-001 (500GB SATA Hard Drive). We would like to inform you that due to a pricing error on this part and per HP's Pricing policy your order has been cancelled. You were not billed on your credit card. We truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Our website is now reflecting the correct price; therefore if you are still in need to receive this part you can place the order either on our website www.hp.com/buy/parts or with one of our representatives at 1-800-227-8164.
Best Regards, -
wow no way that sucks, they shipped out hundreds of these and now they will screw the ones with the orders pending it looks like..when did you get the email today?
-
also just checked my credit card used and the amount has been removed. wow this sucks i really hope i get mine at least the order of 2 i have pending. the order of 12 i dont care about those would have been for resale anyway
edit just called a few people i know who also had these pending order and they also got the email of the cancellation. this totally sucks. -
Now ain't that a kick in...well it was bound to happen...it indeed was an awesome deal...congrats to those who got these drives at that price!
-
Now that suxs big time...well it was bound to happen...it indeed was an awesome deal...congrats to those who got these drives at that price!
Sorry here for the double post...my browser went berserk on me... -
yeah same here but in a way is really ticks me off.. not at the people that got them.. but at hp.. they should not have shipped any or if they did in fact ship them out at that price they should have honored all the orders till they changed the price..
-
sorry, guys.
-
-
mine was placed on the 5th, but i did so knowing full well that there was a decent probability that they would catch the price mistake. then the next day it showed up on SD, so everyone and their mom bought it, which basically forced the cancellation. anyhow, i'm not too annoyed, since i didn't really expect anything.
-
Ordered 20 of them on the 6th and I didn;t get the cancelation email yet. I ordered through the phone tough. We will see how it goes. By the way, these were not for resell.
