- 1.60 GHz AMD Athlon w/ 512KB L2 Cache
- 14.1" WXGA (1280x800)
- 1GB DDR2
- 160GB 5400RPM
- 8X Dual Layer DVD Burner
- ATI Radeon X1200
Walmart's 15.4" Compaq for $298 has a faster processor/L2 cache? And, 2GB of DDR2 memory vs. the 1GB.
But still, for the basics not a bad price.

I just picked one up for my parents. They are elderly, and their previous laptop died (a P3 Toshiba). All-in-all not a bad little laptop. The screen is pretty bright with good color reporoduction. It uses the older Acer curved keyboard which requires a little getting used to. Seperate keys for dollar signs and euros... strange.
The computer pumps out a 3 on the Windows experiance rating system due to the graphics processor. other functions scored better.
After removing the bloatware and games, edited the system config and updated Windows, the computer seems to be humming pretty quickly.
DVDs play without stalling while multi-tasking. It even supports Lightscribe/Labelflash... who woulda funk?
Connecting to my Wi-Fi-n network was easy (a rare strenth for Vista over XP).
The case seems pretty sturdy. There are two USB ports, a montor and a wired ethernet jack. Thats it. It feels so barron compaired to my Qosmio G45 its not funny (that has a total of 12 ports/bays). one problem area I have not been able to figure out is how to take the memory/hard drive cover out. This thing could use the extra gig of memory. -
I want to buy one of these as a Christmas present, but I can't find any reviews on it, must not be that popular.

ooops.my bad.any other laptop deals under $500?thanks! -
Hi,
You can find in BestBuy of Acer AS 5735-4774 of $399. I think this one is better than the eMachine from Circuitcity of $425.
Or for under $500, you can take the Toshiba L305-S5895, $499. But in BestBuy they are also offering this Toshiba with Printer and Internet Security with on $489, hugh saving.
I cannot post the link, but you can go to Best Buy to find it. -
This deal is gone..gone..gone!

You should be able to find a fairly decent deal for your price point.
I thought I saw a few things in Best Buy's over the weekendAnd, one at Office Depot. Are you looking to buy locally, or order online?
