I found this at circuitcity.com for $89.99 after rebates. I found that my 80GB hard drive was filling up faster than i would like it to. It says it is a backup hard drive, but can be used just as a regular hard drive. It comes with a nice backup program, which works very well and has an endless amount of options. So far i have found that the drive is fast and can hold plenty of data for what i am using it for.

did u know that bestbuy is having a sale starting tomorrow for a 160 GB Western Digital Internal 7200 RPM hard drive??..for only $40 after rebates  ..and then u have to get an internal hard drive enclosure..i might get that from CompUSA for another $40...and then it can be used as an external hard drive   ..i might just wait till september to get one of the hard drives though..you could save $10..lol

I didn't know that LuckMC, I looked on the best buy website for an external enclosure and only found one for 50 bucks. In addition i can't order a cheaper enclosure online because i will be going to college in a few days, and wouldnt want to recieve that at my dorm. I would say that either option is a great deal for anyone looking for an external HD.

I am finding that the software that comes with the drive maybe has too many options for me and is more complicated than it needs to be.

I don't know when the offer expires, but YES you can get the same offer in-store, because that is how i bought it. I checked for availability at my local store using the website, then went down there and picked it up. You do have to post up like $170 but after the 2 rebates it comes to like $90! BTW check out EBAY for some good deals on external HDs. I woulda gone that route had i been able to wait for the drive to arrive.

I got the same looking WD external drive a few months back, also from CircuitCity IIRC. 80Gb capactiy for $50 A/R. The good thing is, you can swap out the included drive and install whatever capacity you desire - as it's just a standard IDE drive. I'm currently trying to enter the Terrabyte club...
It comes preformatted in FAT32 (I assume to maximise compatibility), so those who desire NTFS would have to take the time to reformat before use.

The unit runs very cool and quiet. AFAIK, the backup software is the same as that which comes with Maxtor's renouned "One Touch" drives.

Yea, I was looking through all the properties and tweaking some settings and noticed that it was a FAT32 drive. so i converted it to NTFS. For anyone else who is wondering how to do this you:

    1. Go to RUN
    2. type "cmd" (without quotes) and then hit enter
    3. then type
      Code:
      CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs
where C: is the letter of the drive you wish to convert
    4. Now you should have converted your FAT32 drive to a NTFS drive with no data loss!
    Hope this helps!
