I just got the Samsung version of this drive for my HTPC and it is very nice, its plenty fast enough for storage, makes no noise or heat and uses less power.

Great for external enclosures, HTPC, or storage of files.

I may just snag one of these as I prefer WD over the other brands and add it into my desktop (I have 2x 640GB WD drives in it this would give me like 2.2TB :p)

Aw. I was going to jump on this deal until I saw eCost's reseller ratings. Yikes! Add their horrid customer service to the higher-than-usual failure rates of 1TB drives, I think I may just stick with a 640GB drive in the future.

Huh, newegg.com has 1.5TB for $150. Pretty much the same deal, i.e. $1/GB.

Its not the same as its not the same build or # of platters. Less chance for this drive to fail than the 1.5TB

I have gotten things from ecost and never had problems, thats why I had this deal sent to me in my email.

Yeah I think I will have to get one, tomarrow is pay day so if they still have some I'll get it.

I already filled up one of my two 640gb drives on my desktop and I do not want to use my OS drive for storage so time to add another drive :p
