If I'm outputting in 1920x1200 from my Sager NP9262, it should look just as nice and tight as it does on the laptop screen, right? I should be able to output a tight HD picture?

I don't know much about hardware, just want to make sure before I drop $250.

You will have the same resolution, but on a bigger display. So no it won't look at "tight" as you're used to on your 17" display.
