I don't know if this is for real and I highly doubt it is. But it's worth a shot so I'm going to post this anyways. I won't cry if this thread is deleted. =)

I may take a shot at one of those even. Its just one of those too good things!

Why do you doubt this deal? Is newegg.com not reliable?

For optical drive, it only says "DVD Super Muliti", anyone know what that is?

The thread title says "before shipping", but I believe shipping is free. Looks a great deal!

it does have bluetooth included as well.
i strongly doubt its a 1.3 mpx camera though.
When you consider the a8js which newegg sells for full msrp costs 300 more, 350 with bluetooth and the only difference is the 7700 go I cant imagine buying it anymore.
Not long ago it was the best deal on the market but the 7700 should be like 100$ difference, 150$ max ...
I actually recomend almost anyone who is buying a computer look at this one -
I think its like a .3 megapixel camera. VGA resolution or something like that.

Dang
That is THE only weak point of the system. A+ on everything else and then punk us with a crap webcam... I'll live. I never use them anyway
-
I want one, it seems like an A8Js with a $350 discount. Is the X1700 less powerful than the Go7700? Yes, but is it worth spending that much more for 200 3D Marks and 3FPS in oblivion? No.....
Simple common sense. -
Well, there are other disadvantages as well - for instance, the RAM in the A8Jp is 2 x 512MB rather than 1x 1024MB, making upgrading to 2GB a much more expensive proposition. Also, it appears the A8Jp lacks an ExpressCard slot (although Newegg could simply be mistaken on this). And the big one - XP MCE versus XP Pro on the A8Js. Is it a phenominal deal? Certainly, but the A8Js still has its place.
-
Theres a good chance this a8jp gets better battery life than the a8js.
the only difference between the x1700 and the x1600 is that it has hdcp output, which is something dealing with a blue ray disc playing to an external display.
There is even conjecture that the x1700 is slower than the x1600
This is because this introductory version comes with ddr2, but some top end versions of the x1600 mobility have ddr3 which means they could overclock higher. -
x1700's overclock a lot higher and when overclocked are on par with the 7700.
you can overclock the x1700 +100 on core and +50 on the memory. max overclock on 7700 is +25 core and +30 memory which is pretty horrible. -
Maybe one of our resident Asus guru's could chime in on this, but I could have sworn that the A8Jp came with a 1280x800 screen and an nVidia 7600... I may be wrong, though.
-
wow I overclocked my 7700 100 core and 100 memory. not only is it stable theres hardly any added heat.
Actually you have to really concentrate hard to even want to say that because the 7600 gt has the exact same core, only its clocked at 650 mhz stock, 150 up.
I mean and just to make it clear that everything you wrote was false, the 7700 is the one that has the smaller die cast, the x1700 has the exact same nm process as the x1600. Only some of the x1600s have 600 mhz ram and you could overclock them much higher.
I have the 3dmark scores and overclock mhz i did when my machine was new in my signature.
It would be a shame to chatter about hardware differences and have someone take what youre saying seriously whos trying to shop for a notebook. -
Yeah, stamar's right - the A8Js's Go7700 should get the better battery life and have much better overclocking potential than the A8Jp's x1700, as the Go7700 is the only notebook card to date built on an 80nm process - the x1700 is still on 90nm. The 7700 also has more pipelines than the x1700, 16 vs 12 to my knowledge, meaning it will scale much better to higher resolutions. Furthermore, nVidia's drivers are almost inarguably superior to ATi's in all aspects - ever tried to set up a projector, or do fixed-aspect ratio scaling, or run Linux, or play a purely-OpenGL game on an ATi card? It's hell, quite frankly, even with up-to-date, modded driver sets.
-
ok wait
the x1700 should have better battery life. but weve never had an english speaking owner of this notebook to verify this.
As soon as one of you get one post the scores. I think youre going to see once and for all that the x1700 is not even a little faster than a x1600, thats what the chinese review said months ago.
But Id rather see a nbr member let everyone know for sure.
the 512 mb x1700 in the g2 had chinese scores near a 7700 go. Im not exactly sure why but its in the range of the same chip overcocked. but im interested in seeing for certain as soon as an nbr g2 owner will post their 3dmark scores. There are already 2 versions of the x1700 I want to point out and this one is the one thats just like the x1600
so weve got some room for confusion that some people are reading the chinese x1700 g2 scores and thinking this is the same card but its not.
But whats relevant ok is to talk about the a8js 7700 and the a8jp x1700. There is only one version of the 7700 out in notebooks but there are already 2 versions of the x1700. -
I think the X1600/X1700 has 8 pixel pipelines and the 7700 has 12? Instead of 12vs16. If it had 16 pixel pipelines it would have been called a 7800 or 7800GS I would think.... The 7700 is no doubt a more powerful card than the X1700. On some benchmarks I saw on NBF's the X1700 got ~4200 stock in 3dmark05, I think in the V1j. A similar spec'ed W3j got ~4000 in 3dmark05, with its X1600. So, I think The X1700 is still more powerful than most X1600's out there. Also, I have seen an X1600 in an Acer be overclocked to score over 5k in 3dmark05! I would also think that the A8jp would get better battery life with the X1700 than the A8js with the 7700. Regardless, the A8jp from newegg is one heck of a deal!
