Hey,
@ Alienware.com
Recertified Systems:
m15x starting at $799
m17 starting at $699
http://www.alienware.com/products/recertified-systems.aspx
Despite some problems with this models this still seems like a solid deal if you want to try out an AW system. These also have the options for 1920x1200 for you 16:10 lovers (like myself).![]()
-
thank you.
-
that is just crazy
-
Wow, those are great deals.
-
These are wicked! Thanks!

Wait till you encounter those $85+ S&H charges and tax.....
-
Well 1133 shipped for 1920x1200 and additional 6-cell smart bay battery and stock everything else is not a bad deal, tempting if I decide the envy 15 and new m15x are too much
-
Should we be concerned over the negative reviews for both systems?
Alienware Area-51 m15x
Alienware M17 -
Most customers seem to be unsatisfied.
-
the starting configuration suc*s.
I build a Q9000, Crossfire, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD and 1920x1200 LCD
and the price...
$1,574.
is this cheap? -
Starting configuration is not good, anything decent will cost you more than $1300.
-
almost tempted to pickup an m15x.
-
The long battery life w/integrated graphics of the m15x is definitely something worth going for. This is what AW should've done for the new M15x... unfortunately not.
-
ati 3870
4gb ram
160gb
2.26ghz
i think thats pretty decent for that kind of money -
just upgrade the GPU to 3870X2 and keep everything else base. Then upgrade it yourself.
-
Like I stated in the OP aside from the known faults of these systems they are still good notebooks, I am tempted on the m15x since the standard config is not bad while the lcd and smart bay battery are not expensive upgrades
-
if I could upgrade the m15x to a quadcore in the future I'd buy one of these right now.
-
A basic M17 with 1920x1200 display will set you 800 bucks, upgrade the ram yourself and processor at a later date and you could really have a nice machine on the cheap... I may order one of these up..
-
If I was sure the m15x was going to not have hinge problems I would snatch one up, I really like the battery life and weight as compared the new m15x
-
The base models might be good deals, but as soon as you upgrade anything the performance is pretty weak for the price. 3870's really aren't much better than a 4650, if at all.

my mistake I suppose that is why people's sigs say "rep me if you want" though if what I said is begging I don't see the difference lol -
Forum Rules, sorry, no rep-begging. I know it kinda sucks some times, for example when you help someone a lot, and nothing, not even a thanks, lol, but hey, c'est la vie!
-
how does a 3870 or 3870s in slli compare to like the 9800s on the m15 or the asus g50 / 260m on the g51 or the gateway fx 7805 ?
-
Hi sfan. And welcome to the NBR Forums.
Would it be ok if you remake that question?
Is 3870x2 in CrossFireX better than the 9800M? Yes. -
Sweet, ordered one up xfire and 1920x1200, upgrading the ram/cpu/hard drive later if necessary.
Thanks OP! -
A 3870 beats a 9800m GS or a 9800m GT.
-
So getting this base configuration with the WUXGA display nets you the ability to play most games out, and getting the 3870's in x-fire will allow for almost any game (very high to maxed out), with the exception of Crysis of course.

Yes the 9800gt is faster hence the +350 price tag, look here for more it is what I use to to make gpu comparisons:

Hmmm you sure about that ?? Here is a test comparing the HD3870 and the HD4670 which is a little above the HD4650 and the older HD3870 still seems faster. Even though these are testing desktop versions, I would imagine the Laptop / Notebook versions to be similar. Enjoy and God Bless

i still have some benchmarks from my 3870x2 if you want.
i want to pick this up. 3870x2 and 1920*1200 lcd. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
I agree, based on those benchmarks, the 3870 (the heavy hitter of the 38XX line), is about even or a smidge better than the 4670 aka 4650 OC (the middle of the pack line of the 48XXX). Sounds about right.
-
3870HD x 2 are two GPU's, and a double GPU solution kills a similar GPU in single configuration, if the application supports multi-GPU, if not, they are the same.
3870HDx2>9800M GS/GT/GTX ; if CFX is supported, if not, then change the ">" for "<" -
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no it won't beat a 4850. i can show you benchmarks if you want for that.
-
there is no way I'd be able to put a quad core into the m15x correct?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes you are right. the best cpu for the m15x is the x9000
-
ah thats a shame. I would have snatched one of these up if It was compatible. Thanks by the way.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
why not a m17 then?
-
battery life.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
how important is it to you? how much battery life do you need?
-
I am so on the fence on this deal. The shipping and tax is digging at the back of my mind. I know its irrational too.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
which one do you plan on getting?
-

Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i got 2 hours 15 minutes with my [email protected] and 3870 crossfire. of course i also used 6x (1.6ghz), min brightness, and everything optimized for battery. for normal task..
gaming was 45min - 1 hour i believe.
but that's good enough for me as i am almost always near a plug. -
Darth Bane, how many hours did you get?
AW M17 and M15X Refurbs now $699/799!
