Hi...Im a newbie mom..needing a laptop. I do Scrapbooking , Photo editing on a small scale and the internet.
I just bought a Toshiba A205- S4557 at Sams for $720 great price..but is it worth it? Im soso confused...Im son has an Acer Ferrari and barely uses all the feature ugh!
On the Toshiba it as a webcam and finger reader? Are this things that people really use or something else to break?
Stat Intel Core Duo T2450, 1024 mb, 120 GB ...will this work with what I do?
I keep about 1000+ photos on my PC..can the notebook handle that.
thanks so much I saw you all helped Photographer and hoping you can help me..
With 2 in college price is an issue OR should I spend up to 1000 and it will last a lot longer?
I would like one light for travel also. -

LOL I didn't see the cover on it, I like the shiny black. At first I only saw the ugly inside so it's not as bad as I thought. Still Dell's Inspiron 6400 white bumpers beats it... -
-
-
yeah i saw that too in the ads, but i tried looking it up on the internet but didnt find it... :3
if i had a camera i would take a pic lol -
Does it have a fingerprint reader?

Heres the link to the Acer 5920 on the BB site.

Yes it has a finger print reader. I bought it orginally for $840 clearance. Tried it out but thought (your advice) I REALLY dont need a laptop just yet. So I returned it and they had marked it down to $720..gosh I couldnt pass it up.
Its big but only 6lbs..my sons HP is 11.5 ouch!!! It fits in my backpack for traveling so I will be fine. Thank you guys for helping me...I will keep it and enjoy it and the deal I got. Many Blessings sent your way.

OH should i get insurance on it??? I think with my Sam's Plus card I can get like 4 yrs...
Or is going through Toshiba the best way to go???
Thanks again.

I don't think this has Bluetooth, which is slightly disappointing. It does have an open mini-PCI slot so I think it can be added later on. -
oh i just wanted people to watch the video to see how it looks, lol
-
For all that he *****es about the looks, I'm really not seeing why its so bad. Theres three other USB ports on the other side, the dummy button will probably used on a higher spec model later on, and no one cares about this dummy button in a 40k BMW (I have one), why would anyone care about it on a $1100 laptop? He may have a point with the interior styling though. Thats the one bit I don't like so much.
-
wow, amazing for the price! i'd jump all over this if i just hadn't gotten my asus v-x1
-
I actually really like the looks of this laptop. When I see the inside, it reminds me of a MacBook Pro, which is the style I like. Also, the price for this is incredible. If the processor were faster, I'd cancel my 1520 in a heartbeat. Would there be any website to configure one of these?
Great find!
Edit: Great review ---> http://www.trustedreviews.com/notebooks/review/2007/05/31/Acer-Aspire-5920/p1 -
Acers cannot be configured, and they sometimes come in multiple configurations (not with this one though). Usually, Europe gets a model with slightly higher specs, and as such, the Euro 5920 has a T7300 and 1GB TurboMemory. You could probably buy a T7500 and swap it in for the same price it costs to upgrade it at Dell, and then sell the T5250. Its way cheaper than the i5120 that you got ($1200 inc. tax).
And yes, thats the review I was referencing in the earlier post. -
-
I didn't notice this before, but this has an HD DVD-ROM drive; that is, it can read HD DVD disks. Another feature to add to the list. Excellent deal!
-
The only issue might be in the Acer built quality, being really a budget notebook vendor. If you take good care of it, it will last your three years no problem. -
Still you guys are lucky, $1099 is £550, which would never happen in the UK. -
. Does it have a finger print reader?
-
This is an insane deal and I really like the design (not sure what peple seing that I don't see). Wonder if it has any heat issues as it packs a poverful GPU?
-
Not bad.

Hi everyone,
this is my first time posting. I went to best buy the other day and saw this notebook on the show room floor. I think i can get a discount on it too (few friends work at best buy). I'm looking for a strong notebook to be able to keep up with games for the next few years. Would it be fair to say that this is the best bang for the buck right now? Or could I get a better notebook (better for games) for cheaper? I don't want to spend more then $1100, and I don't particularly care about the size. Thanks in advance. -
This has one of the most powerful GPUs available in a 15.4" notebook currently. At $1100, it may be the best GPU out there period. However, you may be able to find a more powerful laptop used for the same price. And remember that you need to pay tax on this, so it will come out to almost $1200 with that.

-
he said a more powerful laptop used, not an 8600m gt used

I would still take the dell 1520 over this machine
Dell 1520 can have wsxga screen and a t7100 cpu for 1050 free shipping.
It would have an inferior ram and hd set up but id still rather have it because those can be changed but the lcd is hard to change. -
yeah, ram and hdd is def easier to change than lcd =\
-
watching a hi def movie h.264 on a comparable 7xxx system cpu load = avg 80% ......resulting in choppy play -
What is the battery for this?
-
It has a 6 cell battery offering around 2-3 hours of battery life.

Wow I kinda want one of these for going around and doing web surfing, and portable media (listening to music or watching a movie) because the battery life is supposed to be killer (5 hours idle, over an hour under intense conditions)
I have been raving about and bought the asus c90 wich I think has the best performmance for the price, but this would make me wrong at 1100$ this is the better performer for the price. However its 1300$ now so that sale is over :/
Still the c90 is 1000$ barebone and has alot of stuff this doesnt if you go pick up 2gigs of ram for 70$, a 160gb hdd for 100$, then a cpu for about 200$
Now your at 1370$ so that puts the c90 back ontop, but with one major downfall, the battery life on the c90 probably wont even touch that of the Acer. A fair trade off tho for the quality and extras.
Of course you still have the hd-dvd reader too wich is cool. The screen may have a bad resolution but you can atleast use the hdmi port and hook it to an external monitor and view full 1080p.
Id much prefer the overseas version tho with the faster cpu and no hddvd reader. If I am not mistaken the one overseas is santa rosa and this one is not, wich means slightly better performance and increased battery life. -
Well the HD-dvd is kind of pointless as you only have WXGA resolution but its still an awesome deal anyways.
-
Well it does HDMI out, so the HD-DVD is completely usesless .. . . it will be once it loses the format war
Hopefully it wont.
I've been every impressed with battery life. I go outside and surf the web. Then I play some CS:S, then more surfing with music, and then some HL2. And then still have battery life.
Gaming will drain the battery fast, but I'm looking at 2-3 hours, a good 45 minutes to hour+ of that was gaming. Very impressive with something of this size and power. -
Vivek, I saw one of these at the local BB. It's a VERY ugly machine, and reminds me of public bathroom toilet seats. I'd highly suggest looking at something else.
-
"For color and taste there are no friends" it's all subjective.
-
i second gautam.. i saw it at a local bestbuy because the deal seemed ugly.. and it is awful. The inside is like a white color stained with yellow puke.
-
The colour of it will come down to personal taste - some people love it and some people hate it. But you can't hide that performance wise, its a very good notebook and an absolute steal for the price the specs come for.
-
i know what beige is thank you, but the inside does not look beige. It looks like a failed attempt at making beige.
-
Hell, even looking past the ugliness of the inside, the quality of materials kills this thing. The keyboard, mouse pad buttons, and palmrest were all of the cheapest quality. Even the plastics on the $449 (as of yesterday) Gateway model were superior and the often $599 Gateway MT3705 does way better, with an aluminum palm rest and pretty decent keyboard.
Idiots. Killed an awesome laptop with horrible cost cutting methods. This is almost like the Ford Mustang GT; an excellent performance bargain with horrid quality and so-so looks.
