Some walmarts have this laptop for $348, and others $388, i dunno why its 40 cheaper in some stores.
amd athlon 2650e 1.6ghz
160gb HD
3gb ram
8x dvd
vista
can't seem to find a link directly to it online at walmart.com
but i personally saw this in the store, and found other sources of info confirming that my eyes weren't on crack.
google it.

Is this laptop good though? i couldn't find any reviews.

For netbook prices I'd say it's good. Acer are usually pretty durable.

Hey saw this post and felt like i had to join to say that this is a great deal for a laptop.... Im on the Aspirer 5515 i bought for my mom because her old comp was crap. I also paid the extra $60 for and additional 2 year warranty. The laptop is fast and seems to have pretty good specs. Vista is awesome on it, im not sure if its built for intense stuff like gamings or graphic designing but i dont have any complaints about it, except the battery life is like 2 n half hours... but i think thats kinda normal for laptops. Anyways, i bought mine at wal-mart in like kentucky on my way back from florida and i want to buy another one for myself but no wal-marts around me here in wisconsin have them... Get them while you can!

The Athlon 2650e processor is single-core, so don't expect much in terms of performance beyond everyday tasks. 3GB of RAM is nice though, Vista likes a lot of RAM.
$348 (+tx) is a very good price for a notebook though . . . and Acer's Aspire series has decent build quality. -
I play World of Warcraft on mine with little to no lag. I'd like to know about upgrades ie processor video. Is this possible, or are we just stuck with it as is.

frys has it for same price.

ok bought one for my wife and one for my parents at $348 each. these are pretty fast machines plays any averagee game great, set ours up for ripping, burning converting and authoring DVD's. does a decent job, ripped and shrank then burned a DVD in under 20min. I authored 2 Divx AVI movies to DVD ready files in a hour each. the 8x burned burns single layers in under 10min. took about 40min for a dual layer at 4x. I compared all the video stuff i did to my intel dual core 3.6gig processor with 2gigs of ram with XP pro SP3 and the acrer was twice the time, but that exspected for this sigle core processor at this speed, this acer replaced a dell laptop that had a 2.8gig intel single core processor that was 4 years old, the acer is as fast on some items but faster on others compared to the dell, one thing for sure make sure to burn your drivers, software and backup onto the a DVD when your up and going as they do not provide one, everything is on a ghost drive, 1st time up I deleted some software needed from the acer, with no DVD burned yet, I used the one button format back to original settings and it did that in about 20minutes, so that works fine, I now have burned everything I need onto a DVD. one small glitch is that the hard drive comes split into 3 partitions, 60gig for C, 70gig for D and 10gig for the ghost drive, no waya round that unless you format the drive and put another operating system on it. even though I hate vista(a pain to try to edited clean up in it) once your done and start using it, its extremely fast for internet use, much faster than my XP Pro machines, so impressed there, so far only had one program I could not install on it that I had on my XP machines and that was Roxio 7.0, seems only Roxio 9.0 and higher is vista compatable, strange my nero 7.7 or 8.0 works fine on it, comes with it owns burning software you must leave on to have the auto backup work thats NTI, never used this before. programs like windows word 2003 pro, AVG, winavi, powerdvd 8, vuze, tpmgne programs, tons of different games all went on ans work great, I also went ahead and bought walmarts 2 year protection plan, so far very impressed with this laptop

Got it for my dad. Fairly good built for only $348(372 after tax)
Installed Windows XP and it runs really quick. It even boot faster and runs program faster than my 6831(vista). Really hate vista.
Tried to get other cheap laptops but most of them can not run windows XP due to drivers.
It was easy to find drivers(you only need 3 drivers after installing windows XP SP3. Display(x1200), wireless card(arthos), Sound(realtec)
Going to pick up another one for my bro who needs notebook with windows XP -
Sounds like a good deal after all. You might try and install Windows 7 on it. It's certainly better than Vista even in beta form.

I just bought the 5515 for $327.00 after tax. I don't know if it was just a sale at the local Walmart (Mobile, AL) or what but i was amazed. I haven't had enough time to really try it out but from what I've seen so far it seems like a deal.

I love my Acer-Aspire5515, I bought it for $348 at walmart. I downloaded my Phillips cam and it messed my new Acer up so I had to take it back because after calling Acer they couldn't even fix it, so I exchanged it for the same one. I was told that my cam was not compatible to vista, now I am afraid to download my software for my HP printer. I was looking for a battery that might have more hours to it instead of the 3 hours that it says it has but it usually goes dead after 2 or 2 1/2 hours. I have been looking on-line even went to acer store on-line to no avail. Can someone help me or do they even make longer lasting batteries? Thanks

I too just bought an Acer Aspire 5515 laptop at Micro Center store for $359. However, I may be mistaken, but I think I only have 2GB of RAM, not 3GB that others are reporting from WalMart.
Anyway, I tried to install drivers for my Sprint Sierra Wireless modem card, and this ended up freezing my entire laptop so that nothing would work.
I called Acer tech support at 800-816-2237, and they told me to do the following procedure to reformat the entire computer back to factory original condition:
1) Turn off the computer (press power button for more than several seconds).
2) Turn on the computer
3) When you see the screen message "Acer Empowering People" (or similar), then immediately press and hold down the "Alt" button, and press the "F10" function key 3 times quickly. Then let go of both the Alt button and F10 button.
4) You will soon see a new screen message prompting you to do a factory restore
5) Follow all the prompts for doing a restore back to factory original condition
The entire process will probably take at least 1 hour or more. The last final step is another long process that requires 13 separate steps, and you will see a window at bottom of screen for status.
I also ordered recovery disks from the Acer tech rep, and the CD costs $21.65. I will soon get my recovery CD by mail.
I never was able to install my Sprint Sierra wireless modem card, so now I give up, unless others may know the answer to this problem.
Hope this helps.

I'm using one now and I like it a lot. It is a basic notebook for websurfing and office work. I find that it handles MS Office and most web tasks easily. The only thing it won't do for me is handle video from my new RCA Small Wonder. Of course, the RCA Small Wonder box calls for a better computer anyway. Anyay, it can handle youtube just find, it won't process my own Web Quality video. Overall, though, it has been a godsend and a great deal for the money.
I wrote up this review on it -- before I had the SmallWonder:

I bought my 5515 because of the price. I did not like Vista at all, so I took it out and reinstalled XP Pro. I down loaded all the drivers from Acer.com.
I also play World of Warcraft with little to no lag. It constantly out performs my sons Dell which is a better Laptop (he will lag in WOW when I don't amoung other things). I am getting one for my wife this Christmas, because she likes the way it runs too. -
I have the eMachines E620-5885. It's just a rebranded Aspire 5515. I use it for university and I think it's great. It has one of the crappiest IGPs (ATi Radeon X1200) around but I have a Quad-Core gaming rig with an ATi Radeon HD 4870 1GB so I really don't care how good or bad it is at gaming. I bought it when I worked at tigerdirect as a "web-return". I paid a measly $309 Canadian Dollars for it because it "apparently" had a scuffed keyboard. To this day, I can't find any scuffs...lol It's a great deal for someone who isn't dumb enough to want to use a laptop for gaming, just for school, work, internet, etc. I think for a student, it's the best deal on a laptop out there, assuming you can still find one. As I had said, the Acer Aspire 5515 was/is also sold as the eMachines E620-5885. One of the first things I did though was remove that infection called Windows Vista Home Basic and I installed Windows XP Professional SP2. It now runs AMAZING compared to how it did because it only has 2GB of PC5300 DDR2-667 RAM and you lose at least 64MB of that to the Radeon X1200. I have it set to 64MB because for everyday use, that's all it needs. I MUST reiterate just how WEAK this graphics chip is. Passmark ranks it 712th in the world out of 775. the passmark score indicates that my Radeon HD 4870 is literally 47x more powerful than this chipset...lol As a result, allocating more than 64MB of RAM is useless and just robs your main bank for nothing because this GPU is not capable of doing ANYTHING that requires more than 64MB. As I said, I LOVE this machine, the price was amazing and I can't say enough good things about it. I only tell you the bad parts so that you know what it can and cannot do. As an all-around machine, it's fantastic, just don't expect it to play Crysis.
I actually still have the old tigerdirect.ca link for this machine. It's listed as an eMachine but with an Acer part # (since Acer owns Gateway who owns eMachines... figure that one out! LOL) and it's the EXACT same machine as the 5515 except it's got 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB. You'll notice that tigerdirect has EXTREMELY COMPREHENSIVE tech specs on this machine.

Also note, if you have this computer and want to switch to XP, email me as I have ALL the XP drivers and will happily give them out. BELIEVE ME, once XP is installed on this machine, it literally DOUBLES in speed. ;-)
Acer Aspire 5515 $348.
